It seems that universities in Scotland will continue to offer free tuition to residents of Scotland and all other EU countries except for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. What is that all about and is this not a form of discrimination? Do the Scots pay for this or is it the British taxpayer? RT

Ron, I would really love Scotland to be independent---ie fiscally independent.--so they could only spend the money they raise through taxes--and see the end of Scotish MPs at Westminster.
Perhaps a per capita elected House of Lords could become a final forum for assent of legislation.
We could then have continental time and not this anachronism of being and hour behind the rest of Europe---perhaps when we no longer subsidise the Scottish education system our students will be able to pay less and our old folks have a fairer deal than now--old folks' homes ---oh that's free in Scotland too as far as I know--having family who live there.
Scotland has been like Cuba for so long--an artificially maintained socialist experiment at the English tax payers expense--time for a change methinks.
Won't happen with a coalition government--too many members have a vested interest in the over represented Scottish seats in our Parliament.
And whilst I am in mid rant--how much did the Scottish Parliament building cost and how much was it over budget(10X and thats in millions to start with.)
Many of my English friends who went to live in Scotland will confirm that the Scots are to a great extent anti English some rabidly so--well let them eat cake--oatcakes that is --and give Scotland its much wanted freedom and FULL independence--thus liberating the English from a millstone that threatens to crush us.
You should always be careful what you wish for and the Scots have wished for this for generations--please can our politicians allow them to go their own way--and rebuild Hadrians wall.LOL Rant over.

>:(There are just occasional days when I wish I had kept up my political carrer and gone into parliament because I am sure I would have stood out against this nonsense--end the subsidies now and spend English money in England--my God no one can say we don't need it. Economic crisis--obvoiusly not in Scotland

Ron, just to add a bit more petrol to your fire, a Scotish student studying at an English Uni will not pay in the same way as it is proposed that an English student will do, because it is free for them in Scotland it will also be free in England. But not the other way round ? I am sure we could put the mass unemployed and community service or payback workers to good use and repair and finish Hadrians Wall, if he doesn`t mind.

Have to have a referendum on that positioning.
