Accompanied my elderly parents on a much rearranged Flybe flight from Manchester to Edinburgh, then returned to Manchester.
Up on BE295 G-JECU in 37 minutes airbourne, arriving EDI 1520 ie on time, after a late departure from MAN as the inbound crew had to swop aircraft - however had to cross the entire airport (well, so they claimed) to do so! 45 pax plus 2 staff, out of 78 availables eats. Must praise the Flybe and disabled handling agents at MAN - did a great job - but getting through security, who demanded my 92 year old dad took his braces off, then to clear the comb area with his two stricks before replacing the braces while his trousers rapidly descended, no points for humanity. They then (OK, correctly) took his shaving foam off him ("but its not a liquid" he claims!). Although my Mum in a wheelchair they were nice and polite to.
Having passed my parents on for the last leg of their journey by road, a look around EDI in the dark. Not all movements identified 1520-1930, when returned by bmi Regional to MAN on EMB-145 G-RJXA in 38 mins airbourne. Only 12 pax on the 50 seater.
A hike across a long-stay car park, revealed just a three engined Falcon (possibly a 7X) OE-LLL (read-off uncertain), departing 1645ish, ATR-72 EI-SLN white scheme, no logos, 'Aer Arann' titles and against the car park fence Cessna 172 G-GBLP and KLM Fokker 70 PH-KZK (scheduled dep to AMS canx due snow at destination). A late mark BAe.125 landed 1845 ish, and eluded identification.
Parked, day-stopping, over on freight:
G-BMRA Boeing 757, DHL
G-CELP & G-CELR Boeing 737-300, Jet 2 red tail scheme
G-ZAPV Boeing 737-300 full red overall, yellow cheats and titles, Royal Mail titles and colours
EC-GQO BAe.146, TNT
F-GIXF Boeing 737-300, Europe Post
Although the ground at EDI was clear of snow, there were great mountains of the stuff piled in the car parks and apron corners. Some of the outbounds were cancelled, AMS, LGW, LHR, LCY, BRS all closed by snow. Fortunately, I got back into MAN just ahead of the snow starting to fall there - the drive back to Liverpool in heavy falling snow was another matter entirely!!
To continue the log, from the terminal:
G-FLBD & G-JEDO (plus several others) Dash-8Q, Flybe
G-LGNM Saab 340, Flybe
G-FBEC ERJ-195 (plus another), Flybe
EI-DPE, EI-DPV, EI-EBT B.737-8AS, Ryanair
G-BVKB B.737-500, bmi Baby, revised scheme
G-DBCJ A.319, bmi
G-RJXA, G-RJXR, EMB-145, bmi Regional
EI-RJN, EI-RJU, RJ-85, both in City-Jet scheme & titles (plus a Do.228)
G-EZAM & G-EZAX A.319, EasyJet
G-LYCE ERJ-170 (plus another) British Airways.
unidentified, Boeing 767 of Maersk, arrived 1845ish.
Not too worried about identifying the gaps, more a matter of giving a flavour of what was around to be seen.
Incidently, did the same journeys exactly a year earlier, 17th December 2009 - the first snow showers of the year at EDI in the afternoon, and at Manchester in the evening, but not at all in Liverpool - shows how much earlier the white 'weather' has been this December!
Many thanks to Bobbyb in the next post for confirming the regn and type of the Falcon biz-jet. BTW EI-SLN ATR-72 in Aer Arann titles was delivered to Air Contractors at Dublin on 18/12 (according to Jethros).
