Tornado has had her boiler removed and sent back to builders in Germany for repairs.
The foundation ring was found to be cracked in four places, the worst two at the back corners of the ring, at the bottom of the firebox. It appears the firebox walls may also be distorted. One of the possible causes of this may be variable standards of coal, burning at different temperatures. Several hundred fixed stays and some flexible stays also need replacement.
Tornado is unlikely to be back on the main line before the end of April, possibly later.

Sounds like a real mess. That's a lot of work for a boiler which isn't really that old. I know she's done a lot of work in the past couple of years, but I'm surprised the boiler is so damaged. Let's hope we'll see her back on the rails very soon.
Actually, I thought by the subject title that the company had gone broke, not the engine!

Seems if the repairs are extensive, there may be a blessing in disguise in the form of a new boiler ticket.
