It looks as I may need to spend a Monday night (arriving mid/late afternoon, mid March) at a Heathrow hotel.
Any advice, balancing view and price! I know that the Renaissance Hotel advertises weekend breaks - is this the best, do others better/compare?
I take both photos and compile lists - decent photography location takes priority over simply non-SBS logging.
Thanks in advance.

Brian.
Have a look at the Jury's Inn at Hatton Cross. I believe some of the rooms overlook the approach to runway 27L. If the weather is fine it is only a 5 min walk to Myrtle Ave where it is brilliant for landing shots.

Over the years I must have stayed at just about every hotel in the Heathrow area. Frankly, most of them are just transit camps, and the high occupancy rates are reflected in the condition of the hotels themselves. My personal favourite is the Sheraton, but pricewise it's at the top end. Aguably the rooms at the front have the best views, though. The Holiday Inn at Sipson Way is closest to the main terminals and has survived the constant traffic better than most. It's sister, the Ariel, has a good view over 27R/09L if you can get a high room at the front. I'd agree with Bobby too re the Renaissance. I stayed at the Park Inn in November and it was looking very tired. Here's a price comparison website, which might help you with your deliberations - be patient with it - it takes a few minutes: www.hotelscomparison.com/

Hi if you are on a budget, I have started to use the travel lodge on the A4 Bath road. If you book in advance - I have for the royal wedding and the champions league final - you can get a family room for £25, so with 2 sharing thats £12.50 each. The car park was £5 for 24 hours, so this allows you to leave your car / go for a ramble, The hotel also gives easy access to pubs, restraunts and super markets. We usually eat at the green man pub (near murtel avenue) which is very reasonably priced. hope this helps.

Hi Viscount, Can certainly recommend the Renaissance Hotel for photography. I stayed there about 6 years ago when we visited a show at Popham. Here's a couple of pics showing the view out of the window (you may recognise my room mate!) and an example of the type of action shot you can get. Cheers, Dave
