That is correct, sad thing is if these two LAF colonels are married with family still in Libya I would be concerned as the photos of them in Malta have no doubt been returned to the powers that are left in Libya on that alone they are extremely brave. Malta the last time I was there was vritually run by Libyans.

Would it be too much to expect that with all the problems rising in the Middle East and the subsequent covert rescue missions (130`s into the desert) and HMS Cumberland back and forth from Malta to Benghazi, that some one in power may force a rethink in the reduction in our military capablilities or should I say decimation. Maybe some time not far off these rescues may not be possible.

Very tongue in cheek............ I take it Biggles is proposing to the bean counting money men that ALL Britain needs is two Hercules and a Frigate - we can rescue British Citizens worldwide and face any crisis at minimum cost to the tax payer, why pay for more ............. don't worry, I'm after winning the webmaster's annual wooden spoon competition! (if there was one).

HMS York is off Lybia and the Germans have performed a "rescue" mission as well.
Somehow get the feeling that once the EU and US have most of their people out, then the "fun" to forceably remove Gadafi mat start.

The West needs to sit back and let the Libyans themselves sort Gadaffi out of office. It won`t go down well looking like he was removed by the US or its allies and would give AL Quieda a foot in excuse.

This link is for live ATC in Malta. Well worth a listen as I heard the Herc that took fire from rebels landing and requesting fire service in attendance on it. www.liveatc.net/flisten.php?mount=lmml

Its nice for us to see the military do something spectacular, it takes the public's mind off the mindless killing and maiming of our soldiers in Afghanistan; all in support of a corrupt regime there. Let us hope, and prey, if it helps, that we are not about to enter into another mission of the same kind. My take on it is that Qaddafi will hang on until some other story breaks "Jordan has enlargement surgery" or "Cameron in tax fiddle", so the fickle press will take their eyes off the ball long enough for the Libyan army to break out the nasty weapons and deal with the dissenters in the traditional way. There are plenty of people in the west hoping for just that..lest their past secrets come out; Adams and Co in the IRA for a start.

mtlnorth ones to listen out for are aircraft using NATO or SOLEX callsigns. These are the AEW/AWACS aircraft and when they are orbiting they are speaking to Malta. Plenty of ASCOT callsigns in and out as well.
