First time on a train in the USA. A surprisingly good experience. We needed to travel from Miami to a delightful little town called Winter Park near Orlando. WP just happens to have a station on the Amtrak route from Miami to New York. We gave it a try instead of driving or flying. The biggest surprise was the more than generous seat width and pitch. Not so far away from business class on the airlines. The journey time was a bit on the slow side at 6 hours , but at 72 USD for the two of us, free checked baggage and porterage, no security lines, and actually being treated like valued customers, it was a great experience. We decided to use the same service for our return to Miami. You can book on line. Its cheaper than just turning up to buy a ticket. (Same journey by car about 5 hours with a one way rental of over 200USD plus gas and road tolls.)

Hi Ron, I have traveled by Amtrak a lot, not for about ten years or so though, and I have done a lot of overnights on trains, between New York and Chicago etc,its a great way to travel, but as I am sure you know the freight operators have the trackage rights and Amtrak get what left, apart from the disance anyway, thats why its so slow,Freight getting the priority, have you any photos?
