Reading through those links I get the impression the project is all but dead, apart from one or two people refusing to let go. A view not helped by its current condition when I wandered over the other day. She is covered is dirt and looking very neglected. I hasten to add I do hope I am wrong though.
Shame..........

In response to the previous comments perhaps I can throw some light on the present situation regarding the Britannia G-ANCF at Speke Liverpool. First let me say that the project is not dead. Last year was a difficult year and our expectations were not achieved. Our chief engineer Mike Bates passed away in March as most of you know. Mick was the guy who took the aircraft apart in the 1980's and thus a lot of information went with him. Various items have been dealt with, for example most of the riveting of the two joints have been completed during last year and basically the aircraft is ready for lifting. The undercarriage is away at the moment and we are in the hands of those who have promised to give them the once over to complete that. In the mean time Macclesfield College have completed work on some corroded stringers in the cabin also some further riveting has been completed and they also have various parts at the college for restoration. The flight deck instrument panels have all been removed to facilitate work on corroded areas behind the panels. As for the outside it is true that the paint work is deteriorating but three weeks ago the aircraft was lightly water jet blasted to clean the dirt off the fuselage. Yes you are right there are just a very few people willing to work on the project but those who do will not for the foreseeable future let it go. For two reason first because it was the first civil Britannia to be converted into a freighter aircraft and owned by the famous British Eagle and as such is an historical item, secondly and more importantly because we owe it to the memory of a great engineer Mike Bates. So two thing I throw out at those who think the project is dead, come and join us and for others, you could kindly donate cash to the project. In the main over the years most of the funding for this project has come from the pocket of one person. That's not to say that others have not kindly contributed to various items for which we are gratefull. I will announce the next working day for your information in due course.
