Probably old news for some but I only found out today that Eddie had died on the 31st March aged 56. Eddie sold the company that he took over from his father (also named Eddie which he formed in the 1970's) and developed into one of the largest hauliers in Europe, to his brother William in 2004, so was nolonger a director. However, his legasy will live on. His waggons/drivers are always imaculatley turned out and the tractor units still carry womens names. Lets hope whoever buys it after Bill will continue the tradition.
RIP Eddie.

I think,he was known as Edward, with his father as you say the original Eddie, who started the business from nothing in the 1950,s,and whose name is still on the side of the trucks to this day.RIP.

Eddie Stobart and Co. have their fingers in many pies with trucks as we know but also aircraft, Aer Arran, trains, coaches (white with the front section where the driver is painted as a Stobart tractor unit) and the other day I saw a mini-bus as Stobart Luxury Travel. ste-t says "Lets hope whoever buys it after Bill will continue the tradition. " Is it now up for sale? Regards Beemer.

Not that I know of Brian but with Edward selling it to Bill it would appear to be a marketable asset rather than a family heirloom. However, if he has family of his own he could well buck the trend and hand it over to them (should they want it) when he passes-on or retires.

There was TV documentary not that long ago, I was amazed to see that the department within the company dealing soley with models of ES trucks and vehicles makes £ MILLIONS alone. I still think they have nightmares paying the fuel costs.

Since the Public Listing the Stobart Group has expanded considerably - purchase of another haulage company (James Irlams) as well as organic growth particularly taking over large chunks of the Tesco distribution (see Widnes for example). Not sure of fleet size now but it is considerable. (Checked web-site 9 April 2011) now 1850 tractor units and 3000 trailers!) Also in media information can be found information on takeover of WA Developments etc www.stobartgroup.co.uk/

I noticed on the motorway another "pie he had his finger in". A low loader with a Hymac type digger on it bearing the name Stobart. Regards Beemer.
