Don't know if this the right place to put this but has anybody noticed that Fotopic .net has gone bust, and with it the link to Ken Fielding's excellent archive of early Speke /Liverpool photo's.

The demise of Fotopic.net has been commented on before (on the 'Non-Aviation Topics' section).
I had not realised the significance in that the excellent library of Ken Fieldings Liverpool photos had been one of the victims.
Hopefully he has the material in a simple to repost format once a new host has been selected. It must be very disheartening for those who had spent many hours scanning and uplifting whole collections to have their work wiped out.

A stark reminder for avid photographers amongst us to copy/ archive their valuable collections onto a CD just in case of things like this. Photobucket and Fotopic and similar host sites are not infallable or imune from collapse.

I have/had a Fotopic account though I havn't used it for a while and I didn't have many photos on it. With regards to Photobucket then I have many thousands of photos on it so what I have done and will continue doing so is to download all the photos from each of my Photobucket albums to my hard drive and burn them to discs. Regards Beemer.

Beemer, I've done this and also burned all of my music onto dvd's to back that up. Recently, I tried to access a disc I'd burnt about 2 1/2 yrs ago containing various files only to find I could'nt get into the disc at all, I even tried it on several pc's. Turns out I'd used crap quality discs and I'd stored them in a room with the sunlight on them for 1/2 the day. My saving grace is that the stuff was also on an external hard drive so all was not lost. Moral of the story.......dont be a tight arse and by yourself decent discs and store them properly. I nearly lost all kinds of things. Now, I very rarely use cdr's or dvdr's, only my external hard drives. They're cheep enough to by and a lot more reliable. Ian.
