I never thought that I would be able to evoke the memories of my childhood and teen years so completely as this site has allowed. The hours I spent at Speke from the mid 60s through to the early 70s are countless, and I even have the hearing to prove it (those Darts have exacted their toll). My first flight was from Speke, 46 years ago yesterday on April 21, 1965, on a Cambrian Viscount LPL-ORK. I was 10 and too excited to note the reg. which I have not been able to reveal during recent attempts. I know that I flew home on G-AMNZ. A year later LPL-NQY on an Eagle Viscount- City of Edinburgh, G-AOCB. My ultimate dream was fulfilled in 1970 LPL-AMS-LPL G-AMAE outbound and home on AH. I had a love-hate relationship with the Ambassador, she seemed so ugly and primitive compared to a Viscount, but was so unique. In the early 70s I flew on a variety of Viscounts, 1-11s and HS-748s and one sub charter home from Munich in a Dan Air 4B - APYD, should have been a Bavaria 1-11 but it went mechanical. Have flown countless times since, I live in Canada now. Flying has never lost its magic for me, though I earn for the in flight service of those earlier days. I look forward to being a regular visitor to this forum. I have a lot of questions and memories that I would like to bring to members's attention.
I remember leaving school early to see an Aer Lingus 720, not sure what year that was 67 or 68 I believe.

Hello all, I am new to this forum too. I find the photos both old and new very interesting. Great site. You guys know your stuff around here alright and some of the old photos are just great. Very absorbing, the time browsing them just floats by... For the past 25 yrs or so my interests are amateur radio, antenna design and all things morse code/radio related, airband listening, all things aircraft plus photography . If any members require assistance with diy airband antennas,or anything airband or HF radio related, please do give me a shout via pm..glad to help. Threw a few pics up earlier in my first post in the "over the top" section. Photographing high alt ac some kms away is pushing my nikon d80 sensor to the limit with a 400mm Tokina lens im afraid..so nothing special ! ;D Thanks everyone, Im sure i will enjoy using this forum. Mike (Liverpool)
