Thanks for the memory barfluer. Despite the number of years I spent there as a child I only ever went up the tower once. How Liverpool and indeed the Cathedrals immediate area has changed since then. Gone are the docks and warehousing along with the back to back housing and rows of three to four story offices lining the city streets. I would say that less than 20% of the buildings I feasted my eyes on back then remain in view and those that do have been relieved of their grime.
Also looks as though part of the roof has been replaced as copper goes bright green with age. When I was up there all of it was bright green and the area that is bright green now hadn't even been built. Back then a very old crane could be seen purched on top of what appeared to be a thin wall (certain sure that that would not be allowed today). The thousands of tomb stones in the cemetery (including William Huskisson's) were soot-black and contrary too the impression at ground level were well spaced.
