Having seen British pepole reduced to living in cardboard boxes and clapped out garages I began to wonder why they don't scrape up the money to go to Calais ,burn their passports and come in as assylum seekers? No more cardboard homes,no more garages, just free accommodation free food free tv and mobile phones etc. We seem to be missing a trick here. Surely they would be allowed to do this and have all these gifts available? Can we offer advice to our citizens in distress on this issue?

How can a British Citizen return to UK as an Asylum seeker basically to his or her home country ? I can understand people right now trying to escape the UK, but not try to get back in

;D Assylum seekers are usually passportless and therefore stateless-makes them harder to return home-not that many are.
If you burn your passport you join the stateless ones and therefore qualify for all the taxpayer's goodies.
It may not be very practical but it sure as hell beats living in a garage or a cardboard box.
Why would they be discriminated against? As stateless assylum seekers the carpet would be rolled out for them.
Mind you I can understand the desire not to return--perhaps another nation would welcome them with the generousity we do--but don't hold your breath.

As dear Mr.Brown keeps desperately trying to convince people, its the system that is at fault and not M.P`s ? He tried again today in front of the World Press and failed again. Bit like trying to convince Banks that it is the system that allows Banks that causes Bank Robbers I suppose, and not some people are just thieves and criminals.
