A good idea would be to get down to the AVP at MAN. I think they usually have 1 or the other running. I have an early SBS and I use it for dot spotting, but its also good for picking up unusual stuff which is transitting the zone. They both do the same thing, but have a slightly different way of showing it. Its personal taste. Either way, both do exactly what they say on the tin. As for range, the higher you get the aerial the more traffic you will pick up. My aerial sits in the front window, ground floor and I pick up 35-55 aircraft.

What do you need to make that work, just a PC? Yep, it takes a while to set up correclt (making sure your router's not messing up the system etc.), but essentially it relies on a network of SBS users who upload data in real time. You then download it and it's displayed on a map. All you need is an internet connection and a PC. MLAT is a feature that you won't get with an SBS box, as it uses raw distance reports that are pretty useless if you only have 1. If you have distance reports from 3 users however, the program triangulates them and plots them so you get the MIL stuff .mic
