I was at NRM Shildon the other day and was told by a member of staff that LNER Class A-4 Locomotive 4468 “MALLARD” is being transferred back to NRM York from NRM Shildon on 22nd July for the summer, Subject to an inspection, she is being towed on the mainline by GWR Hall Class 5972 “Olton Hall” (more commonly known as the Hogwarts Express). No other details were known at the time.

Hi Ian/folks,
I have spoken to my brother (Area Traffic Manager, NR York) and this movement is actually happening tomorrow (19th). It will be back on display at the NRM from the 22nd for the summer.
Don't know if I'll be able to get the full timings yet for anyone in the area, but the move should be complete by 15:45 when it is due to have arrived at the NRM holding siding.
If I do find out more, I'll post it.

I have now been advised that the 15:45 timing tomorrow (19th) is the press photocall timing at the NRM car park. Mallard is likely to have arrived well ahead of this if anyone wants to find a suitable lineside location for the move. Sorry I can't give a more specific time. There is a schedule in the system for a movement from Shildon(dep 10:44) to York NRM tomorrow with a booked arrival time of 15:43 , so this could well be the move.
Please remember that is what is the planned timings , not necessarily the actual times it will run !

Thanks Dave/Nick for the update. Sadly I wont be able to go but I was told that the last time it was moved there were a few thousand people there to see it.
