A trip last week,to a rather soggy Isle of Wight allowed a trip on the worlds last remaining commercial hovercraft service, from Southsea to Ryde, aboard a Freedom90,and a Solent express of Hover travel, this is very fitting as Cristopher Cockrill ,who invented the hovercraft, was an Isle of Wight native. hope you enjoy the pics. At Ryde esplanade.IOW. The Island line,is right next to the Hover terminal, and uses ex London transport, tube trains, very novel. On board the Solent express during the 10 minute flight back to Southsea. thanks for looking.

Thanks for sharing, I managed to take a hovercraft trip between Kircaldy and Edinburgh back in 2007. It was hoped that this would become a regular service, but as there were funding problems, as in there was not a big enough subsidy "as in the money for the Hovercraft was Not Supplied by the Goverment" the service never made it into a full time operation, I could post some pictures if you would like

We were on a coach break to IOW in March and on a day trip to Ryde spotted that returns to Southsea were only £8 so we booked for next day. Strange to hear announcement "next flight to Southsea now boarding" and on our return the 2 smaller craft joined us as we approached Ryde for a photo shoot for the new company image promotion...new colours and uniforms for staff etc. A great finish to a weekend trip and was topped off by last minute phone call giving permission to visit the spitfire restoration facility at Sandown that afternoon...they could not commit till after lunch as it depended on their work schedule etc... regards Dave
