Hi,
My Mum is going on a cruise departing from Langton Dock in Liverpool on Monday 29th August. I was hoping to take my kids along to see the boat leave, but am unsure where will be the best place to stand to see it go.
I have been advised that the Langton Dock area is not very nice and a bit run down to avoid the area.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Hello Dakota, You could view it from Crosby beach or, take a trip over to New Brighton, maybe you could see it from there. hope you have a nice, clear day for it

Hi, in my opinion Fort Perch rock at New Brighton will give better views of the ship (probably Boudicca - it's white),you can watch it coming through the Langton lock and then swinging in the river ready for departure,it is also a better place for photographs. hope this helps .George.

Living on the Wirral side I agree with the New Brighton idea to view. tell her to stand on that side of the ship and wave. A decent camera will get a good shot. Plenty of Free parking in front of the Fort.

Thanks for the replies gents. She is sailing on the 'Ocean Countess' Groth. As they are heading for the Scandinavian fjords, I reckon it will head north and then around the top of Scotland. But, looking at google maps, I think your suggestions may be spot on for the best viewing spot.
Thanks again

Hi again, Monday 29th August is a Bank Holiday,if it is a fine sunny day it is likely to be crowded at New Brighton and parking may be difficult. cheers George

The 29th is also Mathew street festival day, so consequently the city centre/pier head areas will be heavily congested &, you may find travel to the Wirral difficult. I expect the Birkenhead Tunnel to be closed - train transport will be possible depending on the sailing time of 'Ocean Countess' .

Think the Ocean Countess will be berthed at the Pier Head. Langton Dock has the facilities to process joining passengers maybe that's why they are going there first and then will be transferred to the Pier Head. If that's the case, departing from there, you will be able to view the ship from the whole of the Wallasey river promenade.

The Cruise Liner facility at the Pier Head only deals with calling vessels. This is what the whole debate and consultation is all about see: www.dft.gov.uk/consultations/dft-2011-22 Also regarding traffic in the Tunnels the Old Tunnel entrance is closed as it will be used for a stage at the Mathew Street Festival. There will also be additional road & rail traffic due to the Hoylake RNLI Open Day attracting visitors - maybe some interesting aircraft visiting!
