With some good postings on ships recently,I hope some people will find my photos of Ferries and larger ships on the Bosphorus and in Izmir bay Turkey,of interest.taken a few weeks ago during a stopover in Turkey
The Bosphorus is the body of water that connects the Sea of Marmara to the Black sea at Istanbul and is very busy and colourful, heres a view from the Galata tower high above Istanbul.
This was taken from the roof terrace of my hotel in Sultanamet a great way to watch the activity.
View from a restaurant roof terrace over looking the Golden Horn, which is the harbour area,of Istanbul.
Ships have to wait for the shipping version of a slot for the Bosphorus with the larger vessels requiring a pilot,a good souce of revenue for the Turkish Govenment. In the distance is the maidens tower, which was used in the James Bond film,From Russia with love.
This is Haydarpasa railway Station, where trains leave for Eastern Turkey, with the capital Ankara being about 4/5 hours away,at present trains are unable to get over the Bosphorus, but work on a tunnel, has apparently started, but its nice to sail from Europe to Asia, then get on a train.
Haydrapasa ferry terminal, right in front of the station.
View back to the Golden Horn from Haydrapasa.
The Galata tower is visable in the distance across the Golden Horn.
Golden Horn view,Istanbul attracts quite a few cruise ships.
A short flight down to Izmir and the beautiful Izmir bay.
Pasaport ferry terminal
Alaybey in Izmir bay.
The disconcerting sight of a sunken ferry at Konak ferry terminal awaits departing passengers.
Izmir bay ferry at sunset.
Back to Istanbul this ferry,is possibly named after the football team Besiktas.
Nice visit to Istanbul and a very photogenic city.
thanks for looking,
