I walked out on the airfield this morning to find King Air E90 N554CF parked next to the tower. This is the largest aircraft i have seen at Barton and was keen to find out when i could witness the take off! I was really surprised to see it airborne in under half the 620m of RW09R, although it was very lightly loaded it was still very impressive. It was visiting from Dublin-Weston. Cheers Shaun

Great shot Shaun
In all the years I've been going to Barton, I've never seen a King Air
Wonder what the is the biggest to land here.
I've seen a An-2 and a Beech 18 I suppose in it's early days it must have had bigger aircraft in.

Ian, I to was wondering what the largest aircraft Barton has had on the ground? I have heard tales of a lightly loaded Lancaster during the war. More recently i remember a Ju52 operating of the old RW24/06 for an Air Show, possibly late eighties. The Airfield Manager told me of a Do228 with passengers within the last few years!!!
Any further offers?
Cheers
Shaun

Not the largest but unusual all the same. I remember a Harrier touching down briefly at an air show - not sure of the year - late 90's maybe

Ian, we could have used that Harrier last winter to dry the runways out!
Anyway, further to my last ...... an extract from the book Action Stations 3 page 42:
"Permanent runways were not considered necessary at Barton but this did not deter such heavy aircraft as the Wellington, Whitley and Dakota which visited on occasion. Perhaps the biggest was Lancaster ND920 on April 25 1944 which took off with room to spare, despite the airport staff's grave mis-givings"
The Ju52 i mentioned was N9012P coded 1Z+EK at the airshow on 13-05-84.
Cheers
Shaun

Yes, nice to see a King Air at Barton. Last seen by me a couple of years ago at Weston ROI. Regards Beemer.

Hi Shaun, she's quite a special King Air, with the wing from a series 200 and up rated engines. She did look rather smart at Barton. Here's a couple of interior shots just prior to departure. And a couple of exterior. Regards Reggie

At one of the airshows I saw a JU 52 take off and land from there.
