While a very good day, with for once hot, clear and calm conditions - a week-end rarity this year, I do feel the number of visiting aircraft has been rather exadurated.
The following is my log for the period 1210-1520. Would have been there earlier but it took 35 minutes to negotiate the 4 miles of A5300 due to grass cutting work! All traffic reduced to a single lane for the whole length, then the single lane over the M62 was closed, so everyone had to pass through the roundabout traffic lights.
Some problems in deciding which were visitors, and which were residents - so I could have a very few aircraft in the wrong section! My thanks to 'Avro 748' for discretely putting me right on a number of aircraft by PM, alterations incorporated.

.......seems to have taken an age to straighten out my notes. Do let me know by PM or public posting of any errors, corrections, additions etc.
As to my personal opinion, while a great day for the local kids and families in the warm sun, I thought there was more of interest and greater variety for the enthusiast in last September's event, although more aircraft attended this year. Nevertheless a great afternoon with notebook and camera, although there seemed to be far fewer 'spotters' evident. BPJ

Viscount I myself visited Barton and arrived there at approx 8.40am I think there were about 6 or 7 cars already parked up and what I could not understand that most of them left before 11.30,just as some of the visiting aircraft were arriving. I logged 74 aircraft, including the balloons and microlight's,52 of the logged were new for me so I had a good day, I left at approx 3.30 so it wouldn't suprise me if visiting list would have been about 80 to 90 aircraft. Just noticed in my Data Base that the aircraft Reg G-MJUZ Dragon Light Aircraft which was parked over by Mainairs Show Registration was cancelled by the C.A.A. on the 15th Nov 2002

I arrived at 0945hrs. and the airfield was busy with arriving aircraft and there was already a line of cars parked on the front row. I left at 1820hrs.
However at about 1650hrs. I had occassion to speak to the Duty Manager, Mike Lobb and passed my appreciation to him on the splendid day. He informed that at least 100 plus visiting aircraft had visited the "Open Day" and that there were a few more expected, that same evening.
I cannot confirm this because I only log those aircraft that I have not seen before.
Hope this helps. Happy Spotting. DOUGLAS12(Norman).

The Dragon 150 G-MJUZ was on a stand on behalf of an aircraft preservation group 'The Aeroplane Collection' (TAC).
Formed in the 50's as 'Northern Aircraft Preservation Society', they have been behind a number of rescues of seemingly ordinary aircraft and ensured they lived on to become important museum exhibits eg Avro Avian G-EZBM. At one time their airframes were stored in Urmston and Peel Green, Manchester and even Childwall, Liverpool. Today TAC have stored aircraft, workshop and completed exhibits at Hooton Park.
The Dragon 150 is an early example of the microlight genre in the UK. A three-axis control aircraft, using 'then' lightweight fabric technologies was based on early principles of flight design (half close your eyes and a basic Bleriot shape sits before you), before the flexiwing microlight revolution and invasion of the weekend skies by flying lawnmowers.

Well whatever the visiting numbers turn out to be, I had a cracking day. The company I do work for at Barton raised just short of £300 for the Air Ambulance by raffleing a trial flight they donated and also raised £50 for Help for Heroes. I reckon there was at least 83 craft of the air flown in on Sunday; 57 fixed wing (3 axis), 21 Flex-wing things and 5 Helis. Not counting the tethered Balloons. I still haven't got the official figure from the Tower, so we will see. The day really taxed my light aircraft recognition, well actually i was clueless what some of them were! A great day for photography and here are a few of mine that were in focus! G-ZAIR G-STIN G-FIXX G-EZZE G-CGVP G-CFNO G-CECF G-CBZS ...I am sorry but this has to be the ugliest aircraft i have ever seen! G-BRPY G-BPYJ G-AJKB HA-LFH Just a thought Brian, but could red ARV G-...O be the based G-CDKO? Cheers Shaun
