Hi All.
I had BBC Radio 2 on yesterday afternoon,Simon Calder the travel correspondent was on the Steve Wright show talking about the Airlines winter plans he said "A well known Irish Airline is placing up to 80 Aircraft this winter into storeage"
I know that Ryanair re registered EI-ESR/ESS/EST/ESV to N759BA/760BA/761BA/762BA and ferried them to Marana MZJ last week.(My source is the excellent Puget Sound Boeing test flights blog)
I wonder where they are going to store the rest of the 80 Aircraft this winter ?
Any more info most welcome.

I don't think they put them into storage as such but leave then at base not used. ie if a base has 9 aircraft in summer but only 5 in winter all 9 will still be on station with 5 in use at any one time.

Why are they re-registered ?? I think it is so they can be flown by American Pilots, but I may be wrong. Alan Jones. Liverpool,U.K.

I understand 8 aircraft will remain at LJLA this winter, with 3-4 not in use that will be parked on stands 12 & 14.

Isnt the FR 'going into storage' story an annual event during the quiet winter months?

That appears to be correct.
As for the rest, FR are storing aircraft (and I believe making crews take 8-12 weeks unpaid leave at some bases) over the winter. They have been doing it for a while but it unfortunately reflects the tough state of the industry at the moment. Must have a good deal on ramp space at some airports.
