The new fence will run around the perimeter of the airport. It consists of a concrete block about 2ft high with a chainlink fence about 6ft high and coils of razor wire atop of that. Where it passes the front of the viewing park it doesn't follow the existing fence but moves out towards the taxyway marked by white poles. The top of the fence when viewed from the present mound on the AVP would be in line with trees on the other side of the airport making taxying shots a thing of the past. For this reason the airport are leaving this section of fence till all the rest is completed. They are going to build a mezzanine floor (a raised wooden structure ) along the front of the existing mound to appease the photographers. Well that is my understanding of it. Regards Beemer.

Just as well the airport isn't a brewery as it would be outside their capabilities to administer any type of revelry there. :-)

Thanks for the info Brian. Doesnt sound too good. Any idea how big the mezzanine will be? It would be good if it was just for photographers but I doubt it will be. Would photography on the far side be ruined do you think?

Steve, I would think there is enough clearance on the other side of the field. As for photographers only, what is a photographer. The old lady waving goodbye to her grandson with an instamatic in her hand is in a sense a photographer but she may have trouble getting up on to the mezzanine floor unless health and safety fit a chair lift. Photographers with blue badges may ask for some form of a lift as well. Regards Beemer.

One of the "reasons" given for permanently closing the once excellent observation decks at Heathrow was that the airport could no longer make adequate provision at this facility for disabled people under the law. Therefore nobody was allowed to use it any more. Hopefully due consideration has been given to this matter at Manchester...but why am I sceptical?

Can't see why they would need a lift as I can't imagine the height will be excessive. There is enough room to add a higher mound to the existing one with a wheel chair ramp and steps linking the two. On a more serious note; if Manchester have to have this type of fence will Liverpool get one too? Have to get myself an open top bus

I would think Liverpool would need it to if it is the CAA that is requesting it.
