Come own up someone must have seen the massed flypast of orange lights reported recently in the press from as far as Lincolnshire, Hampshire and Merseyside.

Someones coughed to the fact they were chinese lanterns filled with gas , they were then lit and released on mass into the sky.

Ive seen similar things across the Manchester night sky.
Chinese lanterns sound plausible.

I saw someone do this close up in the Lakes once. The lantern was 4 ft in diameter and once the gas was lit it shot up to an incredible height. Fits the "glowing balls in the sky"
