Come own up  someone must have seen the massed flypast of orange lights reported recently in the press from as far as Lincolnshire, Hampshire and Merseyside.  |

Someones coughed to the fact they were chinese lanterns filled with gas , they were then lit and released on mass into the sky.

Ive seen similar things across the Manchester night sky.
Chinese lanterns sound plausible.

I saw someone do this close up in the Lakes once. The lantern was 4 ft in diameter and once the gas was lit it shot up to an incredible height. Fits the "glowing balls in the sky"
