After calling off my trip to the loop thanks to some coursework that needed doing Sunday night, I thought I'd head to the lakes today. After 4 hours sleep (Coursework took longer than expected ) found myself heading to Smaithwaite. Unfortunately most of the snow has now melted, but the tops are still covered and there were patches up the track. Not a good start after being hillpassed by a 100 SQN hawk. It was surprisingly mild for the middle of December until the wind got up in the afternoon . At 12:45 (roughly), the day was saved by a single GR4. Unfortunately I ballsed up the whole pass (the light didn't help), so here's two mediocre rescue jobs.... 1. Low and fast...just the ticket 2. Taking the turn There wasn't much more happening but the scanner was busy. Just as the light was further worsening and the full force of a wintery shower was released upon us, a light glinted in the distance, and for once, it wasn't a car coming through Dunmail! Hello Mic.
I wouldn't call either of them mediocre, i would be well chuffed with either of them. 13 Squadron lives on. Well, untill they can get the stickers off!
That vid brings back some memories of the adrenalin rush you get when you see something fast and low appear in the distance (happy days). I have only done Smaithwaite Banks a few times, it nearly killed me getting up there! At the ripe old age of 52 Dunmail Westside is about my limit.
My grand total for this year is 9 trips with 6 blanks. 1 x Typhoon, 1 x Tucano, 1 x Puma and 2 x Lynx. Not my best year for low level 'togging.
Cheers
Shaun

Cheers.....Smaith is a bit of a killer, climbwise. takes me about 50 minutes but am knackered at the end of it...spend most of it swearing I've had a pretty good yea, but have spent over a month on hillsides. Haven't kept a log, but the numbers are pretty good. Only had 5 or 6 blanks all year which isn't bad at all .mic
