In answer to the doubt, no it is a real job carried out by slightly insane people. I recall many years ago whilst flying at RAF Sealand. an airfield surrounded by huge pylons, on a downwind leg flying level with with a guy sitting on the pylon wires eating his lunch. Very unnerving and weird.
