Just returned from Lanzarote last night, into MAN with TCX. Rumour with some expatriate scousers living out there is that Jet2 may start an LPL - ACE route shortly. Unfortunately, a reduction in existing ACE - UK flights appeared apparent, Thursday being the usual "UK day" but flights looked to be well down on previous years.

Far to late for this summer but a possibility for the winter.
Although it looks on the face of it a bit of a long shot, coming to Liverpool, I have noticed that they, Jet2, have been advertising a lot more here in the biggest city on the western side of England though.

Two hopes.
Bob Hope and no hope.
Jet2 will not be coming to LPL. The route is already operated by them year round from MAN and BLK, giving Jet2 a good cover from NW England, without diluting what they already have.
"here in the biggest city on the western side of England"
Just what are you trying to prove LPL? Having another unsolicited "pop" at Manchester?
Your comment is totally unnecessary.
However as you raised the subject, per wikipedia:
North West England's population accounts for just over 13% of England's overall population. 37.86% of the North West's population resides in Greater Manchester, 21.39% in Lancashire, 20.30% in Merseyside, 14.76% in Cheshire and 7.41% live in the largest county geographically, Cumbria.
Largest town/city by population
Manchester (458,100) Liverpool (436,100) Preston (184,836 )
Largest metropolitan area by km2
Greater Manchester Urban Area (2,240,230) Liverpool Urban Area (816,000)
Believe what you must, but don't involve or push your beliefs on the rest of us. There is no room in this day and age for sectarianism.
Now let it rest.
Support North West England.

Can't see a BLK - ACE route on the Jet2 website, buspilot. TFS yes, ACE no.

Back on message please! This is a thread about a potential new route for LPL, not yet another Liverpool/Manchester debate

Exactly kevmul.
I had hoped these kind of comments from LPL and his mates had gone away with the creation of the new site. They are unwanted and uncalled for.
Sadly it was not to be. Perhaps he will now cease.
Back to subject.
Jet2 are veryunlikely to open a new base anywhere in the present economic climate. Apart from LBA, they reduce routes/frequencies and park aircraft during the winter at their other bases and operate far more adhoc charters. Remember they own outright, as opposed to leasing all/any of their aircraft.

Maybe Jet 2 are using the age old ploy of rumouring a route from an alternative airport in the North west,,to get lower charges at MAN,but I agree it would seem unlikely they will operate from LPL.however,it might seem a bit more likely if they got a freight contract and used a QC aircraft for instance,I am not saying that this is going to happen but there maybe reasons other than what we consider logic, for considering routes, just a general observation.

.... if that was to happen, to use a QC aircraft, then it would follow logically that there are more routes to/from Liverpool because they would not leave it idle here for approx 145 hours per week.

Not so sure about that...they often leave aircraft lying around at MAN for large parts of the day.
The latest CAA stats only cover the period for the quarter to december 2008 when to be fair all airlines had cut back on their flying programme. Average utilisation though was only about 4.5 hours per day for their '737 fleet. That compared to over 8 for EZY's '737s. Anyway, whose to say the aircraft would be Liverpool based? Might not it operate in on a 'W' pattern...

I have no doubt Jet2 amoungs others are looking at Liverpool. This could well be the third MAN operating airline to establish a pathfinder route here over recent months (KLM and Eastern being the other two). If there is market then Jet2 will expand its operation, if not it will be back to MAN.
Lets hope it works out for them and any others willing to give JLA a try.
