This what I saw heading my way this evening, until it gradually ate everything in sight ;D It was amazing seeing the top of the fog bank rolling over and over as it moved forward. Bit like HUGE SURF Nearer

Excellent photos. I once experienced this on a flight across the channel in the Cessna. The fog was rolling up the channel filling up the gap between Folkestone and Calais quite nicely. We could see the far side of the fog bank which did not cover much of the land surface, just the very near coast. We were able to fly above the fog quite safely, enjoy the spectacle, and still be in sight of land ahead. When you see met warnings such as "aerodrome can become covered in sea fog unexpectedly", I tend to take heed.

I agree, Ron this bank came inland from N Wales direction of VRP area Point of Ayr. A route used daily by flexwings en route to N. Wales. I doubt meeting this headone some models of flexwing would have outrun it by doing a 180.
