On Christmas Eve 1971` LANSA's Lockheed Electra OB-R-941 hit severe turbulence and broke-up in mid flight. On board were 92 passengers and crew. One passenger (Juliane Koepcke) was thrown clear of the aircraft as it broke up and entered a two mile 'free fall' dive before hitting a jungle canopy. Others survived the impact but she was the only one to come out of the ordeal alive. Forty years on, her harrowing story hits the news again. This time she talks to the BBC's World Service of which this link is a write-up. I haven't time right now to listen to the actual program (so can't comment) but have read the write-up which is extremely interesting. The link to the program can be found at the foot of the article. I've also included the 'Aircraft Safety Net' listing for the event. www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-17476615www.aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19711224-0
