Why would getting a coupe (a type of car) help the UK? (from wiki - A coupé or coupe (from the French verb couper, to cut) is a closed car body style, the precise definition of which varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, and over time. Coupés are often hardtopped sports cars or sporty variants of sedan (also known as saloon; see American and British English spelling differences) body styles, with doors commonly reduced from 4 to 2, and a close-coupled interior (i.e. the rear seat placed further forward than in a standard sedan) offering either two seats or 2+2 seating (space for two passengers in the front and two occasional passengers or children in the rear). Before the days of motorized vehicles, the word referred to the front or after compartment of a Continental stagecoach.)

There was me thinking that everyone hates a smart arse, YOU know what was meant but in my anger at the article, a spelling error occurred. I expected a reaction more from my non PC joke, than the Dictionary Police arriving for this submission.

If the I-O-M invades they will do it in a Coupe so what's the problem? Secondly, considering the, at times, lack of grammatical and spelling skills on this message board, I welcome the intervention of the Dictionary Police. I before E except after C rules OK.

I before C is hopfully being thrown out now apparently. it is far to complicated to teach the children taking into account the exceptions to the rule. The DAILY MAIL had an article about the very subject and its demise if this organisation of lazy teachers gets their way. I would add my original forum entry seems to be less important than all the subsequent submissions about spelling, which is odd.

I can't really see the Royal Navy not having the Fleet Air Arm anymore. Haven't the Government just ordered some new carriers? Unless they are big enough to take fixed wing aircraft they will be a waste of money if Harriers are grounded. (The Harrier is another of our inventions that we have virtually given away to the Yanks!) Talking of inventions that have virtually disappeared, how about the hovercraft. Saw a programme on TV recently which said the only place you can see a hovercraft is in a museum down South ( apart from your "Flymo" before anyone else says it) but it is seen in practical use all over the world.

Thought the new carriers were being brought on line for the next generation JSF aircraft....would the logic be the Harriers are just be put into mothballs to save operating costs?....mind you those expenses claims still have to be met..... regards Dave (oh god....hope my spelling and grammar are o.k.) oh god.... I hope that doesn"t upset the god squad...oh god I hope that doesn"t upset the abbreviation police.....
regards Dave ...oh god.... I hope that doesn"t upset the you are being too familiar to use "regards"in closing brigade.....

;D I'm surprised the 'not in the right section' police haven't had a go yet I remember reading recently that there were plans afoot to merge the two Air Forces together, with the Naval force being under RAF control. Can't see that working somehow but no doubt the powers that be will have a good try. I tried in vain to find the article but came across this. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8039141.stm

I thought the combination of RN and RAF had started with the inception of the joint Harrier Force, which is why you see RAF pilots wandering around on aircraft carriers, which I find odd as most RAF pilots would have joined the RN if they had actually wanted to go to sea in a Navy Ship, and I bet would far prefer to land on a stationary lump of tarmac anyday and surrounded by green stuff. The comment that UK "virtually" gave away the Harrier to the USA is a bit out, I understood the UK would not spend the money on developing the Harrier when it first started to fly and they offerd the idea to the US Who awash with money soon saw what they had got for free and the result was the AV8B, which I am led to believe was superior to the HARRIER at that time, the yanks then tried to sell back to the UK the development the Brit Government wouldn`t undertake ? Hmmmmm correct me if I am wrong. But it sounds about right.

Why invent it yourself when you can just nick it from someone else. With the new carriers that are coming online (bigger) you will probably find that they will be able to take the JSF which, since we no longer have an aircraft industry, we will have to buy from the States.

he UK already have pilots in the US testing the JSF for that specific purpose, ie use on the new carriers if and when they ever materialise for the RN or RNAF or whatever the sea borne air force will be called in future. On news today though was some concern about the ship yards supposed to be building the new carriers as to them continuing to be a viable business. If not I bet we see that Euro King Mandleson and Blair going back to getting the French to build the carriers or worse stiil, the UK will rent space on European Carriers OMG ?

Plenty of room on the "Charles De Gaulle" Perhaps if they name another nuclear carrier the Jean D'Arc we could rent space on that. Ironic or what--again a once proud nation brought down by an uncaring and unpatriotic set of thieving morons. Wasn't Mandy sacked 3 tiimes for corruption or have I lost count. Roll on the revolution--if anyone cares.

Spot on JohnN "Lord Mandelson" must be the most sacked bounce back member of any Government that exists, he was on TV tonight visiting Vauxhall Motors telling them now he may not be able to ensure they have a job when the takeover which he sort of pushed along into the hands of his Russian Billionaire friend ? whilist then telling everyone he WAS ensuring that jobs would be safe. He`s a lad isnt he. ;D
PM`s question time caused an uproar the other day when Gordon "Bless im" Brown during a speech informed the House that 2011 -2012 would see a 0% rise in costs and as the laughter rose he confirmed a 0% rise in 2009. ;D ;D ;D ;D No wonder we are in deep do do

I never thought I would think this about any British government but some of these are fit for the firing squad. I have never been a revolutionary-more a"Man for all Seasons" if you have ever read the book/play. BUT how much can ordinary folk take? Its time the people took to the streets and installed a government who would represent OUR country and not the weary and workshy of the world and their hangers on. Yes their numbers are swelling and they are all over here voting Labour but it is surely not too late. OR IS IT?
