I have a fairly new Canon Canoscan 9000F copier capable of negative and transparency copying. As my slides have been stored for upto 40 years in less than optimal conditions, running a dust and scratch programme is essential when digitising the image. The Silverfast programme built-in looks to give excellent results. However my weak IT skills (when away from MS Word), are making it difficult for me to master, both the set-up and commands of the programme and subsequent transfer of cleaned product to file, Picasso and thence to Photobucket.
Is there anyone in the Liverpool area, who has mastered Canon's 'Silverfast' who might be prepared to give me a "masterclass" in its use one evening? I have boxes of Liverpool Air Shows, Vanguards, Comets, Boeing 707s, Britannias, British Eagle all just iching to be posted on the Nostalgia section, but I am falling at the first hurdle each time I try. PM me if you think you can help, Brian.

Brian,I don't mean to be flippant (no,really!) but an airbrush is very useful. If you remove all the loose dust and particles from your slides and negatives before scanning, the more persistant "Klingons" can be tackled using Picasa's own retouch facility. It can take a bit of work, but the results are rewarding. I suppose it depends how badly your originals have deteriorated.
