Further to comments in another thread, I agree and assert most strongly that APD is harming growth. Its not the only thing which makes air travel unpleasant these days, but its a major one.
Like many of these stealth taxes, they start off small and grow to hurtful proportions. Another one is the tax on Insurance policies which started at 2%. Look at it now.
The Tories made much of Gordon Brown's stealth taxes, but they have simply added to them.
This air duty first came about under Labour. I immediately thought, "Oh yes..that's typical, Finally the working man can afford to jet off some where with Easy or Ryan, so the government step in to put him back in his box where he belongs. In Skegness or on a package to Spain".
Now they Treasury has a new excuse. Its called carbon reduction...or something similar. Anything to draw money out of us. A classic example of how taxation kills the golden goose
My next flight to Miami is taking a huge sum in taxes. My visits to my daughter and her children are becoming unaffordable. You cannot tell me that these charges are not harming the growth and even the sustainability of civil aviation.
