It was exactly 60 years ago on Tuesday last - 2 May - that the Comet 1 airliner made the first farepaying passenger flight by a jet aircraft. RAF Cosford had a special celebration of the anniversary on Tuesday 2 May. See - www.rafmuseum.org.uk/cosford/news/article.cfm?headline=Comet-pilot-unveils-anniversary-exhibition BBC Radio Merseyside wondered whether 'we' could raise any interesting local info related to the event/Comet 1, asking: "Do you, by any chance, know anyone from our patch who flew on Comet 60 years ago? It doesn’t have to be on the inaugural flight, We are looking for local Diamond Jubilee year stories. Were any built at Broughton or were they all at Hatfield? there is one Liverpool link: Lord Cohen of Birkenhead chaired one of the inquiries into the early crashes." If anyone has any relevant info I would be pleased to pass it on the Radio Merseyside. Please send me a personal message with the info, though I'm sure posts on this site would also be of general interest to NWAN BB followers. Many thanks Keith Hardwick

The aircraft involved was G-ALYP c/n 06003 and this was also the last aircraft to be lost in 1954 out of Rome from memory before all Comets were grounded and testing began which found the cause of the the problems ie the square windows I am just in the course of completing a painting of this aircraft which will be on display in the Air & Space hall at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester from October
