On a trip to Japan, earlier this month(june2012),I was able to sample the delights of All Nippon,s new Boeing 787-800 Dreamliner, from Frankfurt to Haneda, and then also an internal flight from Hiroshima back to Haneda also by 787,and on to the New Chitose airport at Sapparo by one of the 9 remaining 747-400D,s on the upper deck,
Hope you enjoy,
JA805A at the gate at Frankfurt am main.,one of the two Dreamliners in the international fleet at the moment fitted with only 158 seats,it is mostly business class, although there is a small economy section at the back, even economy is charged at higher rates than flights to Narita,
Seat 13D in the second business class cabin, lucky for some .
Windows in the 87 are the main feature noticed by passengers in any class, they are big, they have no blinds and can self darken,as the passenger requires,
positive rate from Frankfurt, and a left turn towards Berlin and the Baltic sea, with a 15 minutes climb to 38000,impressive for an aircraft loaded with 13 hours worth of fuel.
In the cruise at 40000 feet, the windows are certainly,a welcome change.
The flight plan time called for 11 hours and 30 mins to Haneda, and after a nice dinner with a number of choices and some champagne,we were here when I woke up after 6 hours or so.
I t doesnt go dark for long on a route over Siberia,at this time of year,it was fun to take photos with the window at different light levels.
At the gate at the International terminal at Haneda,June is a rainy month in Japan, but it was sunny later on in the day, then the odd passing Typhoon, delayed my flight back to FRA ,ten days later, but thats life.
The check in hall at Haneda international terminal
After a few days in Tokyo,I travelled to Hiroshima by Bulliet train via Kyoto and Osaka,
I then had to get to the North island of Hokkaido, and Sapparo, the easiest way was to fly, again with All Nippon, and again on a 787,this was a domestic version with 252 seats in,but the flight was only an hour, here is a picture of the rostered aircraft JA808A,arriving at the gate at Hiroshima(HIJ)one of the few Japanese airports without a rail link.
Positive rate from Hiroshima, quite an elevated airport, with a drop of both ends of the runway, reminded me of Luton a bit
In the cruise at 31000 feet to the south of Mount Fuji, and about to start the decent for Haneda,
Darkened window shot, strange,no camera filter honest.
On finals for Haneda, this photos shows the engineering marvel that Haneda is with runways built into Tokyo bay, thats a Skymark 738 lining up on the runway to the right.
The observation deck at the international terminal, there are also observation decks on the two domestic terminals, and the international on is open 24 hours.
A Japan air lines Boeing 787-800,they now have four, serving international routes such as Boston and Delhi.major Japanese aerospace involvement in the 787 progaramme, meant first delivery slots for both airlines.
Haneda,is home to the Japanese coast guard, heres a Dash 8-300,taxiing for a coastal sortie,
This picture was taken from domestic terminal 2 observation deck, great landing shots can be had.
The Japanese, govenment and royals use two boeing 747-400 for vip use, both were at Haneda, getting ready for departure, this was taken through a bus window, which explains the tinted effect.
After a couple of hours at Haneda,it was time to board All Nippon flight NH073, to New Chitose airport(CTS),Sapparo,I would be in seat 83k on the upper deck,or the adjoining 737,as the crews call it.
The upper deck on the 585 seater, which was full for the 1 hour 40 flight,I believe its now the worlds largest volume air route Tokyo Haneda to Sapparo, with numerous 747,s AND 777/767,S a day.
Taxying for departure,from Haneda.
After departure a right turn was made, over a passing container ship in Tokyo bay.
In the cruise at 31000 feet approaching the island of Hokkaido.
The external camera remained on during the flight, here we are just coming over the fence for runway 01R at New Chitose
At the gate at New Chitose airport(CTS),where it had just stopped raining!
Another 747-400d being brought to the gate for service later
With the observation deck just closed and some time before my train into Sapparo,it was to one of the many beer restauarant,s at New Chitose, but a £5.00 per half pint, you dont see too many drunks, the beers are models by the way.
Hope you enjoyed these pictures,I returned to Tokyo by train a few days later, via the Seikan tunnel, which is 60 km long.I will post some bulliet train pictures in the other transport section when I can, thanks for looking.
