Hopefully they are here to stay. But as I said in the Blueair thread I can’t see how they survive on just 4 routes about 13 flights a week.

As posted elsewhere, Leeds are losing their based TUI aircraft for 2019 and in the process, 7 destinations have been withdrawn. The loss of the LPL - IBZ route will be a function of this decision as it operated on a W from Leeds.

Was speaking to someone I know in TUI the other week about LPL and he indicated that the main issue TUI has had with LPL is the lack of "higher quality holiday" bookings, their Sensatori holidays just havent sold well from LPL compared to MAN.
He said quite simply TUI see LPL as a more price sensitive market which they can serve better just using easyjet seats.
Easyjet Holidays could be a good answer for LPL on the "package" front, but it may take some time before they really get their holiday arm going properly as it still seems to be less priority for them than it is with Jet2

Maybe that’s why Tenerife never happened and Dalaman just vanished but as long we get new routes don’t think a lot of people care which airline it is with
it’s just nice to see the airport passengers figures going up, remember the airport haemorrhaged passengers from beginning of 2012 till the end of 2014. We’re back on up but the airport could still with more holiday destination especially Greece.

Maybe that’s why Tenerife never happened and Dalaman just vanished. That seemed to be the reason he hinted at for Tenerife being dropped, their own 4 and 5 star hotels werent selling well and they need them to make putting on a charter viable, must have been better opportunities for using the aircraft elsewhere. It's a big shame but I think the Merseyside market has become so used to doing a DIY holiday using easyJet and Ryanair over the years, they won't pay what your traditional tour operators want for a whole package experience. So many tour ops seem to have tried over the past couple of years without success - OSKA, Balkan, Superbreaks and now TUI. Jet2 will never come across now and to be fair they aren't cheap anymore as you can generally DIY the same package for 10-20% less than Jet2 using Easy or Ryanair.

Yeh I agree jet2 definitely are not cheap, looked for Dubrovnik think from Birmingham not Manchester (for fairly obvious reasons) and it was around 470 for 2 adults return, before baggage and seats.

It is interesting isn’t it optimum1878, yes TUI offer longhaul but they do offer loads of duplicated routes Palma faro Tenerife, it’s interesting to see in the next few years how TUI and Thomas cook will fair, will they go the way off excel and monarch perhaps.

I think that's why both TUI and Thomas Cook seem to be pushing their own in-house hotels a lot more now such as the Holiday Villages, that you can't book independently. This could be where Jet2 start to struggle given they don't offer anything unique and you can generally get it cheaper yourself, they just seem to have really effective marketing and travel agent support. Yeh I agree jet2 definitely are not cheap, looked for Dubrovnik think from Birmingham not Manchester (for fairly obvious reasons) and it was around 470 for 2 adults return, before baggage and seats. Some of their prices are crazy, I've seen summer holiday Palma flights for £400 return excluding bags! Can't believe there are people out there who would actually pay that!

I know that’s insane £400 return.
I do think though for far to long Liverpool airport has neglected the charter market, but a lot of other U.K airports are sitting so close together as ours do. Just have to hope easyjet and ryanair see the airport numbers are bouncing back.

The statement appears to be for an inclusive holiday to Palma, not seat only although is not clear. The other example BHX-Dubrovnik was effectively £235 EACH. I would say that those are fair fares - not every fare is discounted or bargain.
Back in the 'bad of days' of cartel fare fixing, I flew Heathrow to Barcelona last minute, on a promotional fare of £160 return and reckoned I had a very good deal and that was as long ago as 1996! 22 years of inflation since, and yes that before the days before Ryanair's and EasyJet lo-co revolution. But does show that today we have an unrealistically low expectation of air fares due to 'headline' advertised low fares. I recently flew Malaga-Edinburgh return for less than 3 days basic car hire (without counting fuel), which makes the air fare sound ridiculous as I probably was in the car only an hour or two longer than in the aeroplane! There have been posts on this forum about rail fares being more than air fares (air losing out on parking, accessibility and security time in the terminal, not price. Passenger expectation of air fare price has become ridiculously low - well in my opinion anyhow.
