Originally entered in the Airport Movements section on August 14th, now moved to a more appropriate place to get this thread underway.
Having beaten FC Gomel of Belarus 0-1 away and 3-0 home, the next round finds LFC drawn against Hearts (Heart of Midlothian east of Edinburgh). Not a fixture likely to set aviation interest alight! LFC are away on 23rd August and home on 30th August. Unlikely to bring in more than a Suckling/Loganair Do.328 or an Eastern EMB, I would speculate.
Well, got that prediction wrong, LFC are using BMI Regional!

Well having got past Hearts, winning away 0-1, drew home 1-1, Liverpool FC are now in the Europa Cup League.
20th Sept, Away. BSC Young Boys, 1800 hours 4th Oct, Home. Udinese, 2005 hours 25th Oct, Home. FC Anzhi Makhachkala, 2005 hours 8th Nov, Away. FC Anzhi Makhachkala, 1800 hours 22nd Nov, Home. BSC Young Boys, 2005 hours 6th Dec, Away. Udinese, 1800 hours
Well, have had to Goggle and reach for an Atlas to make sense of the draw!
BSC Young Boys ........ are based at Berne, Switzerland
Udinese ........ are an Italian team, based at Udine in NE Italy, to the north of Trieste, to the west of the border with Slovenia.
FC Anzhi Makhachkala ........ are from Makhachkala, a City on the Caspian Sea right across in the very SE corner of the European section of the Russian Federation, in the State of Dagestan - not far north of the borders with Georgia and Azerbaijan.
While LFC seem to have avoided the 'big names' in the draw, it is unlikely that we will see more than the team planes for each round - still I can always be proved wrong (I hope!).

The Russian game will take place in Moscow, not their home town.

The Anzhi Makhachkala team live in Moscow as Makhachkala is 'lawless'. They fly into there two days before a HOME match and fly out back to Moscow after the final whistle.

Slightly off the topic being discussed above but Cruisedeals is now down as a tour operator on the airports website with Barbados listed as a destination, so presumably will be meaning some regular charter flights!!!

There are a few cruises of the British Isles departing from Liverpool. LJLA could be acting as agents involved with the handling of incoming/outgoing passengers for them. May not necessarily mean dedicated charters but simply passengers arriving/departing with scheduled airlines. Suppose we will have to wait and see www.cruisedeals.co.uk/search/CruiseSearchRH.do?region=16261

Thomas Cook have announced their charters today for the group games. There is none going to Berne as their airport closes at 10pm and they can not do one to another airport economically. They arent doing a charter to Moscow, instead booking anybody who wants to go on Swiss via Zurich. The only one is for the Udinese game, which is 6th December and provisionally will see a day return flight to Trieste.

Mirror advertising cruise deal to the mediteranean departing Liverpool Pier Head but returning with flight from Barcelona to Manchester and bussing passengers to Liverpool. Seeing we have Barcelona flights are we being ignored again?

Or maybe Easyjet couldn't offer enough seating allocation to satisfy the companies needs?

Re last 2 posts this is where its so frustrating. Maybe easyjet dont have enough seats to satisfy the demand, so instead a charter plane is being used. But if they are using a charter plane that is based in Manchester the airline is going to charge more if it means flying their plane empty from Manchester to Barcelona, then to Liverpool and then empty to Manchester. It becomes cheaper for the cruise liner to hire coaches instead. A year or two ago Thomas Cook did a survey amongst Liverpool FC fans and said they could shave about £30 a head off a day trip to a European away game if the flight went from Manchester instead and were seeking views on it.

I would have thought the aircraft would be Barcelona based. The decision to use Manchester over Liverpool may not have anything to do with the flight but availability of land based transport. Obviously, we don't know which company they will be using but Manchester Airport has a major coach operator actually based there, which would significantly reduce costs if it were to be used. Another factor which has been brought up on another thread is the availability of hangarage/engineering facilities should the aircraft go tech whilst over here.

Some strange excuses being posted for not flying Liverpool pax back to Liverpool from Barcelona given that we have upwards of 500 seats per day, every day on the route.

Potentially Barcelona based, but as the aircraft would then have to fly back to Barcelona empty could just as feasibly be a Manchester one flying out there empty and returning with passengers. Yes Manchester airport has a coach company but there are plenty around South Liverpool, Vision coaches just half a mile away in Woodend Avenue. If there is a risk of the aircraft going tech, then that would surely mean no team that ever played Liverpool or Everton in Europe would fly into Liverpool. Either there is a significant cost factor in the charter price of flying into Liverpool compared to Manchester, they don't want to use a lo-cost airline, or are being plain ignorant when it comes down to Liverpool airport and giving it business.

I would not get too worked about the choice of airport for returning cruise passengers. Look at it another way. The cruise is from the North West of England. the return flight is to the North West of England. I cannot imagine for one moment that all the passengers are from Liverpool. They will be from all over the North and maybe even further.
Manchester does not have a cruise terminal. It has to be Liverpool. Be happy about that. The North does have several airports. The operators have chosen one which suits them for reasons which are right for them and might even be best for the majority of their passengers.
