With regard to TUi, having handled them at EMA, (when they were Thomson/Britannia) and more recently at LTN, I noticed that their flights were invariably full and also that there were very few cases where people would not turn up for the flight, so there were very few LMCs [Last Minute Changes), unlike all the other carriers to holiday destinations, where there were an average of five no-shows on every flight. Another thing I noticed about TUi was that many of the pax were older and seemed wealthier, judging by their clothes and their baggage, so maybe the comments chris747 relayed make a lot of sense. I have never been involved with Thomas Cook, so I can’t speak for them.

The top and bottom of it is that package deals are just ridiculously expensive for families during the summer holidays..DIY gives the buyer the ability to shop around..don't get me wrong, for the first time I'm thinking twice about going abroad next year as the price of flights has rocketed..a flight to the canaries will cost near £500 more than this year at current prices with Ryanair and easy, however I'm finding the cost of hotels actually dropping slightly...
Difference between this and a package though is still £800 cheaper for a family next summer..
just to put it in perspective, I paid 2990 for a 2 week all inclusive tui holiday to Tenerife from Manchester for 4 in 2017..the same holiday, same hotel, same period with tui next year, £4963... surely some point something has to give, family package holidays are becoming unjustifiably expensive, which is why Liverpool will struggle to get numbers as people realise they simply cannot pay these prices.

The statement appears to be for an inclusive holiday to Palma, not seat only although is not clear. They were flight only rather than package holidays, which at £400pp for PMI I think is expensive given the short distance, but I was just highlighting Jet2, as very rare to see Ryanair and Easyjet that high for Palma. Although I agree with you that public expectations have now become unrealistic, especially with the price of oil heading back up. You only need to see the comments on social media when Ryanair release a seat sale of £9.99 flights, people then moan that the bag costs them £50! Spain has become so expensive in the school holidays over the past 2 years, they've been taking advantage of the troubles in Turkey etc, but the tables are starting to turn again now and holidays to Turkey etc are so cheap in comparison, Spanish hotels will have to start lowering their prices again to compete. Not sure if they realise that yet though as I noticed the hotel I stayed at in Alcudia this year has gone up in price by £150 for the same time next summer.

I went to Canada this summer while doing Alaska cruise. Spain may sound more but Canada is eye wateringly expensive when you get there. Good float planes however!

I was looking for a package to somewhere in Canaries/Greece and I stumbled upon Seville from Nantes. I decided to put my own deal together using Ryanair and Hotels.com. and rail travel to Cordoba and Cadiz for side trips. We had a fabulous time at a very reasonable cost much less than the package from which I got the inspiration.

We hear on other threads about slow increases in passenger usage at LJLA but when Liverpool FC fly they support our airport. Supporters are expected to travel to Manchester thus increasing their passenger numbers to the detriment of LJLA. Why are supporters not insisting on flying form our local airport?

AS much as I would like to see every supporter fly from Liverpool, the average football fan who has no interest in aviation and doesn`t think like we do,wont care were they go from,as much as it annoys the rest of us.

Aircraft availability will be a big factor too, lots of aircraft parked up in MAN this time of year, so it will be cheaper for TUI to operate from there than position into LPL, the average punter would rather pay less for their flight and just go from MAN. Titan is the team charter and they will quite happily pay the very inflated costs that Titan will charge to operate

Yes, when they shared an aircraft with Man City to go to the states. Liverpool FC always use LJLA for European and Domestic matches. They went in their own VS A340. Man City went via an Aeronexus B767 IIRC.

I suspect that it could be a replacement for Small Planet who are usually doing the Northern light's or Santa flights who seem to have closed down their operation in Germany and Poland.
