Norwegian has 17 connections available from Liverpool via Copenhagen, which covers several scandinavian destinations which is helpful albeit expected, but there are some unusual ones, such as Larnaca, Santorini and, at last, a London (gatwick) link. It can be done for £89.00 single, which is cheap compared to the walk on virgin rail fare. The 6 hour flight/connection time may put people off however!
As to long haul, they will be flying to New York and Bangkok from Copenhagen/Stockholm in the summer. There does not appear to be any book through connections from Liverpool.

Brilliant news this, especially coming with no warning whatsoever and goes to show that while many (me included) on here been extremely worried and critical, the airport has been working quietly to attract new business. Already though antagonism/snidey comments on skyscraper city, where its claimed Norwegian wanted to fly to Manchester, but could only get special funding from Copenhagen bodies to start the route if it was to a new destination, hence it needs to be Liverpool - but in April 2014 it'll be moved to Manchester when the passenger base is established.

People, I have always resisted the temptation to take part in some of these discussions when we get some encouraging news but I feel I must perhaps inject just a touch of what I feel is realism into this. We have always had comments about management etc that they must do this and that, well personally I do not run an airport but I do run a successful business and life is tough at the moment, to attract a new airline and new services is excellent and to be applauded . Point is already posts are talking about long haul, only here temporarily, then off to manchester etc, I am sure that management at our airport are doing their utmost to find operators and look to the future. They are aware of Manchester and know realistically we will be second, we will not become a major long haul player but plenty of scope for two thriving airports serving the differing demands of travellers. So lets be optimistic but also realistic. As a question going back in time I remember Sterling carrots at Liverpool but can't recall we're they Norwegian or from another Scandinavian country.

Well, it's early days, so lets not speculate on the bad things that might happen if the service is success. Rejoice in its existence. In any case, given what we have seen recently, if the service was a success and then pulled, our "friend" MOL might just step in to take up those passengers. Be happy!

Now this a real Christmas present! Father Christmas is alive and well and living in Copenhagen! He flies Boeing so have thoughts for Rudolph and his friends. Seriously, this is excellent news and shows that the Airport team are working very hard behind the scenes. We can only congratulate them and wish them further success in 2013.

Unreserved joy--well done the management team--this is better than could possibly be anticipated. No wonder it is being knocked by the antis--it must have spoiled their Christmas as much as it has made mine. Onwards and upwards--was there ever a time when we had so many major airlines using the airport at one time? Wonder if there is anything else at the bottom of the Christmas stocking--fingers crossed.
Oh and I almost forgot--A Merry Christmas and a Happy and continuingly successful New year to the management team of LJLA--good one people.

Right well now we have got them here....lets keep them here! Cannot afford for it to only be a short term thing! Anyway glad to see more flights going to the airport, the only downside is it will be harder to get a ticket to go watch liverpool now!

To go off-topic for a post, in reply to 'Clive H' (reply #17), Sterling and Cimber Air were/are Danish, Braathens and Wideroe were/are Norwegian.

How is it when the airport does some great business the negative doubts appear.the norwegians may have looked at wizz airs success at lpl and their new 5 year deal, and decided there is something at lpl for them.Time will tell of course.if the route is a success, lets hope they stay like wizz have done.

I believe this puts LPL back on par with when they had KLM. Back then it was easyjet, Ryanair, flybe, wizz and KLM. Now Norwegian swaps with KLM to bring back the status quo of number of airlines using LPL.

Although all the press release refer to the route being flown *3 flights per week you cannot see the third flight on the airlines website.
