As I was at Southport (along with countless others), I know what I saw.

Viscount, The P-51 flown by peter is not Frankie, that went tech with an undercarriage issue. The P-51 he owns and flew this weekend was Jumpin Jacques

I took a lot of images on Sunday, hard to cut down to a viewable post. Made a rule of no more than one image of each aircraft - then broke it for the Lancasters and Typhoon! Photos of the display are in the sequence that the aircraft performed during the afternoon. Only missing aircraft are those of the 'Red Arrows' as I was still well back from the Prom while they displayed (blame 'Merseyrail' bus replacement service for that!). To start with the aircraft on the Prom and operating from the beach: Full scale model Spitfire 9 BS435/F:FY is extremely effective both as a Spitfire and as a fund raiser Slepcev Storch G-BZOB in period Luftwaffe colours as 6G+ED One of two Zenair ZH.601s on the beach, this is G-TTOM attracting interest from a guy with a lens surely too big for interior shots! The Jodel DR.1050 G-BYFM being readied for departure. The interesting little single seat Corgy CJ-1 Starlet Mainair Quik Flexiwing, you decide G-CCDD or G-CCDO, both are Mainair Quiks, but as G-CCDO is based at nearby Ince Microlight field, it is the main contender! Departing from the beach early in the afternoon Squirrel HT.2 ZJ251/51 taking 'Red 10', the Red Arrows commentator back to Blackpool to join the rest of team on a flight to Rennes, France for a display later that afternoon!

Solo Tucano T.1 ZF244/244 in 'Lest we Forget' and poppies special scheme The 'Blades' team provide many photographic opportunities with aircraft at seemingly impossible angles to each other. Highly entertaining routine. Always looks good in the sunshine, the Catalina is impressive for its sheer size. Seems Southport have given up with 22 Sqdn from RAF Valley being unable to attend on the day, and brought this Royal Navy Sea King all the way from Culdrose. Well worth it, a good routine and bright colours. No so sure that this formation of a Bulldog and a Tutor was 'unique', but certainly unusual. The Grob Tutor G-CGKU is a Woodvale based aircraft flown by the RAF solo display pilot based at RAF Cranwell - but due to the weather on Saturday could not fly his usual aircraft up, so came by road and 'borrowed' this Liverpool UAS badged aircraft. Peter Teichman flew his Hurri-Bomber superbly offering opportunity after opportunity for fine shots from the crowd. The sound of the UH-1H Iroquois approaching across the bay was wonderful. A far better display than the routine performed last month at Rhyl Air Show. Jet Provost T.5 XW324/U provided a follow-on from the Bulldog that performed not long before Although only one helicopter, the 'Black Cat' performed well in this specially marked Lynx HMA.8 The Xtreme XA41 G-EVIL is an unlimited aerobatic aircraft, first time I have seen this particular one - and it was flown impressively by Ed Cyster. Peter Teichman returned to display his P-51D 'Jumpin Jacques' - although only named on the other side! The Army team is now also down to just a single Lynx. The performance with rolls and back-flips was impressively different to that of the Royal Navy Lynx not that long before. The commentator stated that this would be the final public display by an Army Lynx as the type is being replaced in service next year by the Wildcat.

It may well have been the final display by the Canadian Lancaster before return to Canada, but what a sight in the bright sunshine. Wonderful sight and sound. A pity the two Lancs did not perform a wing-tip to wing-tip formation, the passes mostly being 'tail chase' in style, but still plenty of photographic opportunities. Another aircraft that never fails to provide photographic opportunities is the Typhoon FGR.4. Spectacularly flown, a photographers delight. Billed simply as 'Canberra' on the programme, it was a delight when the Canberra PR.9 appeared with a Hunter T.7 alongside. Good routine in the sunshine, but why silver overall on both aircraft. Was the Canberra PR.9 ever silver in service? The Hunter T.7 would look more attractive in very appropriate yellow T-bands, rather than just bland silver. Well that's my thoughts on the subject. Already some great shots of the Merlin on this thread, so here is mine with a different angle. Possibly just that I was in a different position relative to the display line, but I did not think the RV8tors were as impressive as they were at Rhyl Air Show a few weeks previously - still an interesting watch though, although I watching for the Vulcan to appear from the south! Well what a way to end an air show, the mighty Vulcan bomber. Never ceases to impress.

""The only aspect of the afternoon that struck a sour note was that Merseyrail, in their great wisdom, decided that the Hunts Cross to Central section of the electric line to Southport would be closed all day. So a one hour trip took longer then two.""
Northern did not cover themselves in glory either. I travelled on the 09:44 from Salford Crescent: I joined the train at Hindley. It was standing room only and would be passengers were left on the platform at Burscough. Ticket office was not open at Hindley (and I suspect several other stations) and buying a ticket on the train was out of the question. Fortunately I was off the train quickly so not not have queue for too long. There appeared to be only one person selling tickets.
They did do a little better in the evening, managing to run at least one extra train. I returned on the 18:05 which was busy but seats were availble for the vast majority of passengers. Also travelled on Saturday when things were better but not perfect.
One has to wonder why the both Northern and Merseyrail cannot prepared for this event. The date of the Air Show is know well in advance. Each company has exclusive use of the track so running extra trains would not disrupt other traffic.
The companies seem unwilling or are able to plan ahead. They could sell combined travel and Air Show entry tickets. To my mind they are missing a good commercial opportunity.
Anyway onto the Air Show. Echo other peoples positive comments. It was a great show, especially on Sunday when the weather was perfect and all ran completely to plan. The two Lancasters had to be the highlight as you just knew you will almost certainly not be seeing this again, ever. I say that as a 69 year old, younger folk MAY get another chance, one day!!!
The Canberra/Hunter duo were also a very worth seeing.

Had a fantastic day yesterday, well worth the trip! If it had been a repeat of Saturday I may not be saying that but the weekend was more than salvaged. A shame so many participants had little choice but to scrub, leaving a lot of gaps during flying; this being said well done to those team who did display, still some impressive flying if less than impressive photograph results for me in those conditions. I was almost underneath the Jet Provost on that final pull out, a family a couple of metres away suffered the jet wash of the pull out, their ground mat being blown away and the had a bit of a hair-drying. But Sunday! I enjoyed the display as much as some occasions at Fairford. Lovely variety and all displays were top-notch in fantastic light, highlights obviously topped by the Lancasters, but also great to see an RNAS Sea King display and first display by the Canberra for me, and great that the Hunter came up with which wasn't publicised. May well be back to Southport again next year! Photos to follow.
Red Arrows identified to add to Viscounts list: XX244, XX311, XX319, XX322, XX323, XX325 (I suspect but cannot confirm the final 3 to be XX219, XX242 and XX310)
Also Light aircraft departing on Saturday Afternoon: G-AJKB Luscombe G-BCSL DeHavilland Chipmunk G-CBLW X Air G-CCDO Quick G-CDYT Ikarus C42 G-GTSO Quick G-UCAN Tecnam Plus two more Quicks
Edit: Just noticed Viscount, the Hunter is listed as G-BXKF, it is now registered G-XMHD (same airframe)

One missing from your list on Sunday is Ikarus C42 Cyclone FB80 G-CDYT, landed first dropped someone off and then almost immediately took straight back off again.

Viscount thanks for the correct info on the Spitfire, it was a young cadet that said where it had come from But I should have remembered the RAF Sealand gate Spitfire, thanks to all of your pictures from the Airshow And all excellent, after the day of a lifetime with all fantastic planes of different types thank you to the time of the pilot's who gave us there time in this display, Sorry Rhyl needs to do something the same to stand out where Southport has to give but Southport needs to have area's to watch for free along the proms.

If I recall from my days at RAF Sealand the spitfire which was Gate Guardian in the 60`s was sold and returned to an airworthy state, last time I saw it it was painted all over silver with a red stripe down each side. Can not recall serial or reg at this moment, may have changed by now, I know it did featured in several magazines after the return to flying.

In spite of the weather on the Saturday the only thing that spoiled it me for me was the music they had to play over everything that was flying, it takes a lot to naf me off when there are aircraft about but the final straw was eight merlin engine drowned out by load music (getting old and grumpy obviously)
