Just to carry on from the old BB, the airport has signed up Premier Inn's to build yet another (!) hotel at the airport.
I am led to believe it will be on Speke Hall Avenue and due to open 2010.

The airport has planning permission for an hotel on the old Dunlop sports site along with commercial and office uses for the rest of the site. Given that funding a new community room attached to the Fox was part of the conditions for approval I somehow don't think the pub is going anywhere...!

Your right andy. The hotel is going on the field to the south of the Fox and they have already began clearing the site.

Looks it.
The external shell of the community room at the Fox has already been built and the old Dunlop club house demolished. So won't be long before the bulldozers & JCB's move in.
I can't help thinking we could do with that runway extension before they spend money on another hotel though.

See the first post on this thread - it is a PREMIER INN.
As with all airport developments are tending to be focused on getting more revenue from passengers using added value services.
The Express by Holiday Inn on Speke Hall Avenue was intended as an airport related facility but it also filled a large gap in hotel provision in South Liverpool.
All the hotels that exist or are under development should all assist passengers arriving late at night or with early morning departures.
There are also a number of planning applications for further hotels around Speke Hall Road - it will be interesting to see if these get their permission and also if they then proceed to completion.

Work is really under way on this project now. The ground has all been fenced off, trees cleared, and the footings are being dug.

There is loads of space around.
For instance by the Holiday Inn/Johnsons Controls or even in the business park.
