I seem to remember several months ago there was talk of an extension to the tango apron to provide 3 new stands, has anyone heard anything regarding this ? I can only imagine if jet2 continue to grow and easyJet don’t wonder off there would definitely be some infrastructure updates. Especially if a certain airline wanted to base in the next 2-3 years

Liverpool City Region Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram has announced that if re-elected next month he would commit to delivering a new bus rapid transit system between the city centre and the airport (along with the two football stadia) by 2028. He cites the Belfast Glider network as an example.
Not exactly the tram or light rail connection that would be the ideal, but probably better than the existing bus operation. As ever, time will tell.

The metro mayor is full of support for the new rail link between Manchester and Liverpool. Despite costing 12 Billion (At today's prices) it does not quicken the journey times between the 2 cities by one minute and is of arguable benefit to Liverpool. Although the route from Widnes to Liverpool is not finalised, it is obvious that any new route would be quite close to the airport. So why not integrate the airport to the new line? It would provide quick journey times between the airport and the city, as well as warrington. It would also provide a link between the 2 NW airports. However, I am dubious of our mayors support for LPL, and if elected i'm sure he would probably put even a rapid bus transport system at the bottom of his priorities.

As Harbourcotter has pointed out getting to Manchester (Victoria station) from Lime street will be no quicker but seeing as the £12bn link is to Manchester Piccadilly from Lime street, journey time will indeed be cut to 35 minutes from the current 50 minutes. so I guess it depends on whereabouts in Manchester you want to go. I have posted this reply to address the fact that Harbourcotter did not mention the actual links route. The below link will take you to the article. I totally agree that Liverpool airport should have better connectivity but I doubt that it will ever get a direct rail link. But we can dream. lbndaily.co.uk/whitehall-confirms-12bn-liverpool-manchester-rail-link/#:~:text=People%20will%20be%20able%20to%20get%20from%20Liverpool.

The government’s preferred route won’t happen. It’s strongly opposed by Liverpool City Region as it would mean a three year closure of Lime Street Station and result in lower rail capacity overall.

Gates 13 & 14 have been reconfigured at the airport making it more roomy, cleaner and smarter with the removal of the wooden partitions.

The more use of the remote stands is inevitable if Jet2 expand any more and that means more bussing to/from the terminal according to airport director for oprerations.

i dont know why they dont bring back into use gates 5 and 6, still easyjet branded. they are massive compared to 8 and 11. even if all airlines could use them.

The route being proposed via another Manchester Airport railway link, could be highly detrimental to Liverpool Airport. Here we need improved rail connections, the LCR should be beginning more local, to improve this airports connectivity.

THE LCR need to start listerning to local people,Jet 2 have just proved that local people want to fly from their local airport, give us a proper link up to LPJL,Jet 2 will surely double their operation in the next couple of years,we surely need an access road from the A5300 into the airport, otherwise the congestion into the speke area will only get worse, something will need to happen. WEe can only hope that this is now seriously being considered.

I did tweet Steve Rotherham a couple of days ago to ask for an update on the A5300 to airport eastern access road……no response to date.

Harbourcutter is spot on with his comments. In my opinion the best way to get a rail link to the Airport would be a branch off the Northern Line between Liverpool South Parkway and Hunts Cross West Junction. Some tunnelling would be needed but there could be some surface line as well
