This is a request to the forum administrators , NOT a criticism of any individual(s).
I like to see aircraft (and other) photos , and have long been a photographer myself.
However , mobile phones are not an ideal platform for viewing pictures , particularly those already seen on a computer screen.
Furthermore , photographs use up limited internet data allowances. They re-appear every time the relevant page is accessed.
It was possible , under the old forum format , to select "block images" in the user's personal profile , but this is no longer an option.
As a courtesy to other members , I have not placed any photographs on the forum since viewing them became compulsory.
Would it please be possible to designate a separate section of the forum for photographs ?
This would not penalize anybody ... the pictures would still be readily available for viewing with a couple of clicks.
I was once asked on another forum to place images on an "external URL" , whatever that is. It may not be applicable in this case.
Anyway , my point is , please make the excellent forum photographs available to look at when required , not all the time.
Helpful and constructive discussion of this matter would be most welcome.
Thank you , Keith.

Keith, the daily threads for Liverpool, Manchester and the Isle of Man work so well because they are a mix of information and photographic record. To have two threads for each day would double the effort of most to view all the information that is there. Generally the majority of information is placed there before 2pm, the majority of photos after then (as the photographers get home and have access to their PC).
All photos on nwan forum are via a photo-hosting site, so do indeed have an "external url".

I have found a way to partly address the problem of compulsory photographs. If you only want to block images on occasions of your choice , use a different web browser , adjusted to suit your requirements.
I normally use Firefox , but switched to Microsoft Internet Explorer (which comes with Windows).
To disable images from all internet sources in this browser only ...
Open Internet Explorer , and click on the Tools icon , which is a little cog-wheel in the top right corner.
Then select "Advanced" , and scroll down through the settings to "Multimedia".
Uncheck the box "Show Pictures" , then click the Apply button at the bottom.
The next time you open Internet Explorer , images will be disabled.
If you do want to look at photos , simply revert to your original web browser (Firefox or whatever) and pictures appear as normal.
Anyone who applies this procedure , please let me know here how you get on.
Cheers , Keith.

Sounds like you have solved your own problem.
Might we shortly find you joining in as a postee of photos shortly...?

I don't think anyone would thank me for posting further repeats of the almost identical photos our regular stalwarts supply. :)

For anyone attempting the procedure described above , please note ...
Once you have successfully blocked images using an alternative browser , you cannot use that browser to log into the forum , but text can still be viewed. if you want to log in or see pictures , revert to a browser which allows this.
The image blocking procedure has so far only worked on my laptop computer. I have been unable to find an Internet Explorer tools button on the phone version , which is where data conservation is most necessary. There is a "Settings" page on the phone itself , but this does not cover image blocking. Does anyone know how to achieve this ?
Thanks for any help , Keith.

Trying to get my head around this one. Why would an aviation enthusiast not want to see photos?
I know we see practically the same images every now and then but the viewer has the option to flick through. When I was posting photos I'd look at other members posts first to see if they were the same and would not duplicate unless it was from an entirely different angle but that was my choice. Should we introduce rules to stop duplication or just make members aware of it? I for one would not want to introduce rules preventing it as it could stop members posting photos altogether and we'd all lose out. Probably best to leave things as they are and flick through them.

It would be a boring Forum indeed without photos, duplications or not. You can not police the photographers. I don't want this Forum to be a text only one like Manspotters2, good as it may be to those who use but not for me. If it became that then I would not remain a member and I am sure others would follow. Photos are part of this excellent forum and would be a sad place with out them whether they be aviation, transport, flora or fauna. Regards Beemer. (Administrator)

Having gone digital in the last year, I am back into my aviation photography, and having learnt how to use Flickr I can now post my efforts for the
membership to enjoy, and judging by the number of 'likes' I have received you do appear to enjoy them.
Regarding duplication I was the first to post a photo of VP-BFM Falcon 900 last Thursday, then two identical copies followed later in the day -
we could argue is that necessary ?
When I posted my photos of D-CFTG Learjet 35 later that night I stated they were from a "different perspective" ie avoiding duplication.
Personally I would not post an identical photo to one that had already been uploaded and concur with Ste-Ts comment.
The alternative is policing photos and deleting duplicates which in my opinion is wrong. Surely it is just a matter of common sense !
I am guessing that Keith does not have unlimited Broadband, and is using a wireless dongle on his laptop, so the photos are eating into his monthly
download allowance ? I may be wrong ....... over to you Speke-Ezy

I think we should appreciate those who get up most days rain or shine and bring us pictures from Liverpool and around the region
Not only taking the picture, but editing, transferring to the Internet and then writing the post. If you have gone to all that trouble, you can post it
I do understand if you have very limited broadband, but for everybody else, surely it's more the merrier

Thank you for the input so far gentlemen.
As stated at the outset , this was never a complaint about the excellent photos on NWAN , or those who provide them.
I am simply seeking to eliminate images from my phone , which has a very limited data allowance. I do not want to waste this resource on photos which can be appreciated much better on a full-size computer screen.
If there is a complaint at all , it is about the "improved" forum format introduced a couple of years ago , which removed the previous option to block images. I fail to understand how an improvement can restrict personal choice in this way.
Perhaps this is an issue for the forum owners/designers to re-examine.
Meanwhile , if I do find a way around the problem , I will share the solution with you all.
Best wishes , Keith.

Hi Keith, If you are using Firefox on your phone then they have an extension called "Image Block" addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/image-block/Perhaps this is one way that you could look at hiding the images? Also perhaps there is a plugin on the proboards forum which could bring the feature back?

Keith, following on from 'Aviation Cafe', I googled 'Proboards plugins' and got a rather long list. However despite a considerable scout around and refining a search to 'image block', I found nothing that would appear to help - not saying there isn't a plug-in to help - just that I could not see one!

Hi Aviationcafe and Viscount,
Thank you for the constructive suggestions. Unfortunately my phone does not run Firefox , only Internet Explorer. The search engines are Bing and Google , neither of which seem to offer image blocking without also excluding entire web sites. Obviously that is not helpful.
Do you , or anybody out there , know if there is an image blocking option on the mobile app version of Internet Explorer ? I can achieve this function easily on the laptop computer , but that is not the objective.
Still puzzled , Keith
