On a visit on Tuesday whilst work was going on to finish off the ground floor external glazing to the car park, no obvious work had been undertaken inside in terms of constructing the new car hire outlets. The area has, however been fenced off to prevent cars parking there. I would have been very surprised if any work had taken place in advance of planning permission being received. The foundations have been dug out and bricks are being laid for the car hire offices. The offices are sited inside the mscp in the corner nearest to the drop off section of the short stay car park.

I've been told the foundation work for the extension site offices starts next week. The memorial garden is being moved to the corner of the premier car park by the junction of the east service road. After the piling work is completed the memorial garden will be reinstated in its existing position.

I am booked to use the premium car park in January. Can anyone say where it is being moved to?

might be better placed arranging to have an efficient staff channel before ensuring the car hire companies have nice shiny offices - embarrasing sight this morning of a huge queue of staff snaking through the terminal exceeding any check in line!

I am booked to use the premium car park in January. Can anyone say where it is being moved to? If you've used it before carry on as if you are going to the same place. Once you go past the first barrier instead of turning left before the second barrier, turn right. The premium car park has simply move to the other side of the access road.

No sign of site cabins during a quick visit yesterday though work continues apace with the new car hire offices in the MSCP. In the terminal most of the units on Level 3 that are not marked for retention in the revised layout appear to have been vacated.
One wonders whether, given the news of the additional RYR aircraft for next summer, and hopefully aircraft no. 10 for EZY as well, whether the airport need to consider laying some more concrete airside? With the nightstopping KLM we should have 19 based aircraft by the end of next summer. We only have 26 aircraft stands - not much room for coping with additional traffic (freight, diverts, larger biz jets, etc)...

Hopefully might see a further apron extension to Tango, could create an additional 3 to 6 stands perhaps-if stands are to same configuration as present Tango layout. The ideal would be start extending the apron towards old Dunlop site, across long stay parking and build maybe a longstay multistorey elsewhere?

Geeforce, Is this reliable sourced information, or wishful thinking speculation on what you would like to see developed next?
DaveL, Without a resident large aircraft operator (following the demise of Emerald), any scheduled night freight operator (with the departure of TNT), 7 spare stands overnight should be quite sufficient. How many summer overnights in 2009 did we have 7 biz-jets/airliners/freighters/diversions/charters on the apron together? Close quite possibly on some of the football charter days with late departing charters after mid-week European Games.
While I believe that an airport can never have too much apron space, I cannot see that laying more, even with the increase in night-stoppers next summer, will be a high investment priority. I'm sure Peel Airport management are monitoring the situation though.

Just wishful thinking on my behalf Viscount. Also after consulting Masterplan diagrams of projected apron expansions for the future

T'was I not DaveL who raised the apron capacity question. Whilst I agree to a point with you Viscount looking back there were quite a few occaisions when we would have been pushed for space had we had three extra based aircraft this summer. I would hope too that as the economy picks up (especially the car industry) that we will see the return of TNT sometime next year.
The timetable in the Masterplan does say that additional stands would be required by 2010. so far the Airport has delivered most elements of the plan on time so more concrete may not be out of the question.

I dont think that the airport have taken the Masterplan to the local authority or the Government as yet.

sooner they get on with it the better. took 15 minutes queuing for security yesterday afternoon. airport duty manager was wandering round in an orange hi viz jacket, but until G4S employ more staff and the security area is expanded it continues to be a miserable experience.

Taken from the Airport's website
"The final published version of the Master Plan; the associated Sustainability Appraisal; and the Part I and II booklets can be downloaded from the 'Related Documents' column at the top of the page on the left handside.
These documents have been sent to the Department for Transport, local authorities and regional bodies and agencies for them to take into account in preparing their own plans and strategies.
The Master Plan will be subject to regular monitoring and a formal review every five years, including further public consultation."
