I arrived at the airport on sunday 14th at about 5.00 am. I checked in and was in Departures by 5.40 am. In security they body searched nearly every person but we had to wait. Every xray was working and fully manned. I was not flying until 7.00 am and had plenty of time for a coffee and sit down before my flight !! ps I have never had a problem at security but I always get to the airport 2 hours early.

obviously people have differing experiences. i havent got an axe to grind, im just highlighliting my own experiences. i didnt post about security queues for quite a while because the situation had improved. i shall refrain from posting if i encounter any further negative experiences. hopefully the expansion works will imporve the situation.

Passing by today I see that a fair amount of structural steel work has started to be erected, primarily the new escape stair core. Also the curtain walling at the eastern end is being dismantled. Surprised that no one appears to be posting any sort of pictoral record of progress?

In relation to queues, I went to Naples a few days ago, and the queue was the longest I have seen for a long time. However, I deliberately timed it. It took 12 minutes to pass through security, although I admit it felt like longer. I worked out that a 20 minute queue would mean the queue starting before the 2nd escalators and I have never seen this to date. This temporary queueing system has some easily remedied faults however.
Due to leaving straight from work, I had little time to manoeuver, only 1 hour. I knew that to be safe I would have to pay for fast-track, but I also needed to acquire a plastic bag for liquids.
The catch 22 is that the machines which issue them are alongside the temporary slow lane queues, and security would not allow me to pass to obtain them, unless I joined the slow queue (I can understand why as it could appear to be queue jumping). As the machine was 1/2 way down the queue, probably further, it was pointless using the fast-track.
I appreciate that its only temporary arrangements, and it would not inconvenience many, but by simply moving one of the machines it would alleviate hassle for passengers, reduce the normal queue by the odd few, and increase by a few pounds takings at fast-track.
