Heard this twice now in alst few days. An advert for Co-operative Travel plugs some deals then says from "flights from Manchester your local airport". I have made a complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority, and will complain to City as well, will post any responses on here.

Well it depends where the flights are going to,if there is not a service to a particular destination from Liverpool but there is from Manchester then i would have to agree that Manchester is the local Airport for that service after all it is only half an hour by car. I tried to book to the Isle of man from Manchester the other year and the CO-OP were selling flights from Liverpool when Manchester had a direct service.

Radio City is a local (Liverpool) station not a regional one, so by definition when 'local' is referred to then it means local to Liverpool.

Manchester is DEFINITELY not my local airport. If there is a rail strike or traffic jam on the motorway, Manchester Airport could be far more than half an hour away. Luckily, with KLM now offering world wide service from LJLA, I should no longer have to use the other NW airport. Travel agents, such as the CoOp, should be arranging tours using easyJet flights from Liverpool.

The holidays advertised were to Turkey, which is served from Liverpool, but even if it wasnt I still wouldnt expect to be told Manchester is my local airport on a radio station that serves Liverpool and its environs. If a travel agency wants to advertise flights from Manchester I couldnt care less, as long as I dont get told in a condescending way that it is my local airport, Qantas for example may wish to advertise direct flights to Australia from Heathrow, but they wouldnt say it was local. The fact that they are advertising on Radio City is a compliment to the fact they are obviously worried about LPL still holding up its passenger figures whilst MAN comtinues to plummet. What worries me more is that Radio City are happy to take such adverts (they had the Trafford Centre over Xmas) that take business away from the local area.

Radio City are happy to take such adverts because they get paid for them.

Look on the brightside - Us Scousers can now boast we have Emirates flying the A380 from 'our local airport' ;D

Because of transmission areas and signal strength, Radio City can be heard elsewhere in the North West Region. They too, just like airports, have a catchment area. Their signal is not specific to Merseyside, although by the sound of it some would wish it were that way.
Radio City are a commercial radio station, not funded by the tax payer like the BBC are. Radio City's sales staff will be aware of their signal coverage when selling advertising airtime to customers, who will also be aware of the radio station's coverage area. Without advertisers there would be no Radio City.
You haven't heard people from the Fylde calling "foul" when they pick up such adverts.
Time some people woke up and smelled the coffee.
Heaven forbid the comments, should Emirates decide to advertise their A380 service from Manchester on Radio City.
BTW LPL, per their website :
Radio City is the commercial radio station for Merseyside and North Wales for a broad 15-44 audience with a focus on 25-39’s.
It is part of the same media group as Key 103 in Manchester.
Highly likely therefore, that Co-op Travel have a deal with the group, to run the same advert on both stations.

Look on the brightside - Us Scousers can now boast we have Emirates flying the A380 from 'our local airport' ;D The A380,may be flying from Manchester with Emirates from september, but I would ask members of this board to remember that prices will always be less from LHR even with a train journey to London, its a pity that a mainline station has not been built at Heathrow yet,but when it is finally ,it will be quicker to join a flight there, without having to go to Manchester in the first place, which is not Liverpool and Merseysides local airport, whatever pro Manchester,Buspilot maybe posting.Of course once Dubai starts growing again, there may well be demand from UK airports not currently served by Emirates, and A330/777 displaced by A380 have to be flown some where, and other carriers from that regionare also expanding, So who knows in the next ten years or so, we may have flight from our true local airport.

HS2, the proposed high speed rail link, is not going to go via Heathrow.
Even when/if this line is built, you will still be changing trains in London to get to Heathrow.
BTW calflier, my local airport is Malaga. I fly to whichever UK airport is nearest , for a specific journey. If I feel a need to critisize or praise any airport I will do so, as I have with the present chaos in our new terminal, if you have read my comments. I do not view any airport with rose tinted glasses.
As for long haul flights, be they from Heathrow, Manchester, Liverpool ,or any other UK airport, it makes no sense whatsoever with the UK's APD as high as it is, to fly direct. A short haul flight into Europe for a connection is the cheaper way to go. If APD remains as high as it is in the UK, it will have a detremental effect on any other regional airport getting long haul flights from foreign airlines.

Never stated there would be a direct train from Liverpool to Heathrow, but it would be a real alternative, with booking in advance and with cheaper fares available from LHR,makes real sense for the price sensitive thats all I am saying. Off course there is KLM,who seem quite happy to expand from LPL.No doubt some of it at Manchester expense for a good service to Dubai and the Gulf region.
