I take it this will upgrade the ILS on runway 09 ? I think it is just a straight replacement of time expired equipment. The contract was actually awarded in Feb.2017.

I wonder if now the RESA is properly in place whether the declared distance for 27 will go back up to 2286m / 7500ft? It was reduced albeit only by a metre a few years back presumably to allow enough space to fulfill the absolute minimum RESA distance allowed.

I think the alterations (removal and flattening of road, hedges, fences) has much more to do with establishing the RESA as a proper 'sterile' area in the undershoot area than restoring the full operational dimensions of the runway. That may be an unintended consequence if the Airport want to push to reclaim the missing metres. Mind you, the slight 'shortening' of the runway length may be more to do with an accurate remeasuring than height of obstacle clearance or length of the initial RESA calculations.
The whole area has certainly been changed, positively with the views of the airfield at the 27 end widened considerably by the removal of the hedges, but negatively by the restriction of security fencing - well certainly from our point of view anyhow.
At least it has put a complete end to the idiot who used to park his Transit van under the extended centreline then climb on the roof with his kids to experience (touch?) the arrivals!
Clearly roadside hedges have been removed and security fencing erected, but have the trees behind the old mound (the former plant nursery site) and the growing scrub in the field that is now the sterile RESA been cut down to produce a unobstructed smooth surface too?
For those that know the area, but can no longer visit (ie me!), is access by car along the formerly closed section of road straightforward, or are there restrictions in place once past the last of the bungalows/horse farm? Presumably parking is not possible until the well used layby much further on - I notice that there are already double yellows on the new bend shown on the photographs. Final question, has the promised new open access footpath between Hale Road and Mersey Way LDP been established yet outside the line of the RESA fence boundary?
That first shot certainly shows how tall, wide and deep the new hangar construction is. Any chance of a long telephoto shot of the airside face of the hangar from the former mound position, not just the wider scene so well illustrated above?

how do you access it? do you drive down baileys lane and then down?
surely the people who live down there still have to access it or is there like some form of barrier with like cardswipe access i used to go down oglet lane to give the horses some carrots but don’t know if that’s allowed anymore.

frlpl91. You can drive down Baileys Lane or walk down the new bridle path situated between Baileys Lane and Dungeon Lane and it will bring you to the old mound and further if you wish so. There are no barriers only double yellow lines where I was. Beemer.
