Great shots Beemer, I should have joined you on the "sunny" side!

Wellsie82, welcome to the nwan forum. Given that the wind is forecast to favour the 27 end as the active, without doubt the GA Car Park or the 27 Mound will be the places to see both the departure and 'finals' activity. Details of these positions are on www.nwan.co.uk then folllow the tab for 'viewing locations'. 27 being the east (Hale) end of the runway). The 'mound' for photographers, as proved by the photos here, is on the south (sunny) side of the centre-line. Inside the terminal is no longer an option, as all the apron/airside windows are now within the secure area. Providing 27 remains the active (which given the weather forecast I've just seen it should), then the 09 Speke Hall 'bund' location is the undesirable 'wrong' end!

Certainly looks better on the far side Beemer, fighting shadow and glare (highlights clipping on the second shot below ) all afternoon from the GA road! Last couple of Tonka shots: GC

hi viscount
many thanks for that
it sounds as though take-offs and landing will be from an east to west direction with the aircraft taking off over the mersey, so i need to be at the end of the runway
i'll be either be getting the train into town and then a bus to the doorstep of the airport and walking, or getting a train to southparkway and walking the way so hoping the weather will be ok-ish like todays has been
some of the pictures on this thread have been excellent today, if i can capture a few similar ones tomorrow i'll be very happy
thanks again

silverback, as a newbie, can i ask where you were to get them photos today. it appears that you were along hale road rather than being down dungeon lane at the end of the runway, is that correct?

Hi wellsie82 and welcome to the forum.
The shots were taken from the access road along to the GA area, there is a raised mound on the right which allows views that clear the fence, only problem is on bright days shots are a bit "contrasty" as it's roughly south facing.

cheers gc - is that the area known on google maps as little heath wood? ive done a street view of the area and couldn't see a way to go onto the mound/heath itself, sounds like the end of the runway of down the access road to the training place is best

Not sure of the area and road names, living "over the border"! I'm sure viscount or Beemer will give a better description soon GC

wishing now id done my homework and popped down there prior to the day, doesn't help the fact that i dont drive either lol
after seeing that the typhoon didn't arrive i wasn't going to bother but after seeing the amount of hawks & tornados i didnt want to pass this up. i used to live in norfolk and took all of this for granted back then as it was on my door step

I know that feeling!
Back in the day I worked in Lincolnshire (late 80s/early 90s) and lived equidistant between Coningsby, Waddo and Scampton with Binbrook on me doorstep!

Wellsie,
Don't walk from South Parkway, or you'll be absolutely creased! Frequent service buses to the Airport from the rail/bus interchange.
See if you can get the bus driver to drop you just inside the turn off the public road into the Airport. If he takes you right into the Airport, walk out by the route the bus has entered by (not the car exit route), then then right once you reach the public road. It is a fair hike. Ignore the entrance into TNT depot and once past the blue hangars behind an earth bank, take the first right. After a short time next right into GA car park, or continue on through the approach traffic lights to the 'mound' on the left, shortly after passing a closed off road junction from left.
Don't be shy about talking to anyone sat in a car with a big lensed camera - chances are they are a forum member, so introduce yourself. Just ask "Are you aware photos of today's activity will appear on the nwan forum" and you'll find out who you are talking to when the answer is "Yes, they'll be mine!"
PS When on a bus, sit on the right (facing forward), once past the old terminal and control tower (Crowne Plaza Hotel) with a maroon coloured Dragon Rapide replica sat immediately infront, if the bus turns right at the roundabout, look right at the next roundabout (as the bus turns left) and see if you can pick out silver/grey Prince G-AMLZ and partly re-assembled Britannia G-ANCF and maybe even AA-5 G-SEXY in plastic wrapping behind some containers.

GC you sound in the same boat as me! regular days at lakenheath, mildenhall & marham, as well as the shows at waddo, odd days out at conningsby and of course riat ;D at cottesmore or fairford (not done a proper show in years - i dont count southport as a show compared to the ones ive been too, although next year should attract more with it being earlier in the year)
