Later in the month H.M.S. LIVERPOOL is going the same way too. We won"t be ruling the waves for much longer at this rate.

At least with most Military items they are cleaned, even when destined to be scrapped unlike the vast majority of buses you see on the services these days.

For example, here's a story from the area I've just been to... www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-12352823Dave (back on thread - great pics, Barfluer )

Not (un)surprisingly BBC NWT billed the scrapping of HMS Manc as the last of the 'northwests' naval vessels!

And we thought it was bad enough with the Harriers and Nimrods!

East Yorkshire Motor services (EYMS) Yorkshires largest independent made a profit of just over £450k last year but this round of government cuts has reduced their income by over £2m. It's now odds on favourate to be bought out by one of the big four. Merseyside will not escape either but the effects wont hit the commercially viable sector (unless they subsidises loss making rural sectors) until the fuel duty rebate reduction kicks in in 2012. Great photo's. Anyone know whats going to happen to the ship. Will she be sent for recycling or sold to another country? (Sorry I noticed Dave's reply after writing this but I will leave it in as shows how the cuts are affecting the company's and not just services. If anyone wants to carry the bus line on it would be best to start a new thread. Save hijacking this one).

I remember Liverpool being built and watched her leave the Mersey on her maiden voyage. Seems like yesterday - hard to believe it was over thirty years ago.

I was in Barrow earlier this week and saw three naval ships moored up looking a bit forlorn.
No names on the ships that I could see but they were marked 28. 29 and 30 (I think - from memory)
Does anyone know if these are being de-commissioned?

I suggest we all record these programmes of military units being scrapped, seeing them in action on dvd or video is the nearest thing we will have soon. I reckon we should keep showing them on TV on repeats to make the rest of the world think we still use them operationally.

Suspect the ships will go up for internal naval tender for the use by a foreign navy depending on the fit of the vessel, and if nobody wants her, she'll end up going for external tender like the Ark. Failing that.... scrap metal price isn't too bad at the moment.
