Does anybody know whether work has currently stopped at the hotel. I don't see too much happening and I appreciate that they could be fitting it out, but the end facing Western Avenue has still not been clad, and there is still plastic sheeting where some of the windows have not been fitted. SteveT used to give regular updates, perhaps Steve might be able to answer. John F Not a lot is happening at present and there seems to be a skeleton crew there at the moment, as you say, the rear is left undone and has been for many weeks now. I haven't taken any photo's of it for ages as it is almost complete. Therefore, I can't confirm the plastic windows. I also used to see lots of lights on inside indicating work was commencing on the fitting out but these no longer appear lit. I had heard that someone may have pulled out but I'm not sure if its Hilton or the builder. Can anyone in the know shed anymore light on this one? Steve

Work is progressing at the site but nothing is being done with regard to what looks like fire exits and cladding on the north side.
The window cleaning cradle is being used to inspect the fascia panels and windows. A crew of landscapers has arrived and are landscaping the east side of the hotel.
Lights have been on over the past few weeks but only on the main landing areas. However, there is very little activity in these areas and no lights appear to be on in the bedrooms, indicating that either the fitting out is complete or not yet started.

The footbridge has now been put on hold. The changes to the security and the flow of passenger traffic to the new search comb in hanger 1 means it has been shelved for the time being.

I'm hearing that the car hire companies are moving over to the multistory soon and that the hotel is on target to open in September.
More of the hotel is now on view from the terminal building as some of the boarding to the east has been removed. Didn't have my camera with me today but will try and get a graph of it soon.

Yes the car hire is moving to the MSCP and where they are now will be turned into a cafe/restaurant area. John Lennon will be moved and a coffee bar installed on the bridge. Because of off-site car parking being more and more available the revenue from that source which used to be the largest has decreased. The biggest earner now is retail airside after security and landside retail is stagnating due to the restrictions. So in the future there will be no retail landside except for a cafe or two. Another sad consequence will be the lack of apron viewing as all that area on level 3 will be airside.

Sorry if I am not reading this right, does that mean the hanger is going to be incorporated into the terminal building some how. I know they want a bigger security area but that will be massive.

That answers that one then, I suppose if the airport are able to convert a hanger into the search comb area, might we see them being used for future terminal expansion.
