Back to the bus service.... Used it last week for a day of photography at MAN due to engineering works on the train. It's cheaper and quicker! Very good service. About 10-15 people outbound in the morning (at 8:00ish) and about the same number coming back (21:00ish) My only issue is that you can't catch an earler bus if you get to the station early. I ended up waiting at Manchester Airport bus station for over an hour, during which 2 buses with about 50 odd free seats on both refused to let me hop on. (weren't going to fill up as they were direct to LPL) If NE sort that issue then it's a really useful service for us enthusiasts .mic

I don't know what you are on about but it certainly isn't on thread. If you were originally commenting re Ste-t's post re seeing aircraft, I think you'll find that 1) he' s not Mancunian and 2) He's right. Can we stick to the subject please, this forum was never launched as a Man v LPL vehicle (the title is NorthWest Air News) and it invariably causes the most arguments and need for moderation/banning members. Found some Malev photos as a show of my good intentions and by way of an apology. And have posted them in the appropriate slot.LOL Chambery will still follow. BTW if I got a bus pass--to which I am probably entitled ,as I now come from warmer climes and am available for the Government's bounty, would I be able to use it on this service and get say from LJLA to Leeds? It would save me a fortune and get some of my taxes back that I still pay on my pension.

Pass the salt and vinegar please Darren. ;D John, CloudWarrior and Dave are correct - scouser born and bread and support the best team in my home city. To answer your question, pension passes only entitle you to free travel on local services (in England) during off peak times which is basically after 9.30am to last bus but this does vary slightly from region to region. National Express have a scheme where if you buy a yearly pensioners pass (£10 admin fee) from them they will give you a discount of up to 30%. Unfortunately, this does not cover services that serve an airport. So it's full fare on the Leeds - Liverpool/Manchester Airport service. Like everyone else keeping the cost of passenger transport high - it's book early for the best discounts with National Express too. www.nationalexpress.com/home.aspx

Thanks for the info. As usual those who have paid taxes for over 40 years have to struggle to get anything back.

Just to say that the airport approach road, from the junction of Dunlop Road and Speke Hall Avenue, has been designated as a 'red route'.
The intention of this is to stop cars parking on the main road waiting for passengers to arrive.
The enforcement, so I am told, is carried out by Police, airport staff and is backed up by CCTV cameras that are on airport property.

Unfortunately, this will only address the symptom and not the cause. As is happening since they placed cones in this section of road people will park elsewhere. Dunlop Road to Western Avenue is a particular hazard as at times cars are parked on both sides for quite a considerable distance. This is a major route and the only access road for large vehicles to the airport and to/from the TNT facility. The problem is forcing HGV's to ignore the 2 ton weight limit and drive on the Speke estate when cars are parked there, as it makes the road too narrow for them should buses/lorries come the other way.
Unless the airport tackle the cause, which is the cost of parking, then their fighting a losing battle. Enforcing the parking restriction on Dunlop Road won't help either as this will force people onto the Speke estate and no doubt annoy the residents.

Ste you could argue the cause is ignorant and lazy drivers, rather than the cost of parking. The section of Dunlop Road in question is clearly marked with double yellow lines, though I do agree the airport could look again at the price of parking for, say 30 minutes for cars picking pax up. Alternatively they could consider a waiting zone using part of the long stay car park fenced off after the multi storey opened...
