They bring back a few memories ian531. I must get around to scanning a few of my oldies. I remember one day in the mid 80s sat at the end of Pier A, and being treated to the arrivals of 5 consecutive B747s. CPAir, Wardair, British Airways, Transamerica and North West Orient Cargo. I never did get a decent photo of a BA Oney (BAC 1-11), because of course then they were ten-a-penny. I regret that now. I remember faking a sicky off school the day the NASA B747/Shuttle flew over and cycling over to the multi-storey to see it.

Been watching the recent posts on this thread with interest, some great colour schemes on long forgotten airlines.
I actually flew with Sun d'Or on their Boeing 707-358B 4X-ATR in August 1981 from Ringway to Tel Aviv, although I suspect that the previous year the colour scheme was more like that of parent company El Al than that in the photo. Flight LY5318 outbound LY5317 on return, four and a half hours outbound, a few minutes over 5 hours on return.
On the way home I checked in early at Tel Aviv with a rucksack/back-pack of dirty washing, souvenirs and exposed transparency film, in order to see what could be seen through the windows in departures (which was very little). On check-in, my bag was labelled 'LHR', no computerised bag labels in the early '80s. I protested, but the lady behind the desk insisted, "No flights from Tel Aviv fly to Manchester and that I had to collect my bags at Heathrow on arrival at London before onward transport." "Look at my ticket, I flew direct from Manchester, the ticket clearly states direct to Manchester on return." "Oh no, we do not fly direct to Manchester." "Get your supervisor". "I am the supervisor". "The ticket says I am flying to Manchester, I came direct from Manchester, I know I'm going direct to Manchester, I'll not leave this desk until my bag is labelled 'MAN' and matches my ticket destination." With grudging bad faith she gave in, wrote out a manual tag for 'MAN' and fastened it on.
Why this story? Well I arrived direct to Manchester, but my bag didn't!
The following morning a telephone call from British Midland at Liverpool to say that my bag had arrived from .... well you have guessed by now ... Heathrow.
Clearly the supervisor had changed the airport bag code back to LHR once I had left her desk. I rushed down to BMA's office at Speke Airport, to find that it was an enthusiast friend on duty (and 35 years on an active member of this forum), and another surreal conversation.
"Sorry Brian, even though I know you well, I have to ask you what is in this bag to provide positive identification." "No problem, a fortnight of dirty washing and used film" my reply. As he started to undo the rucksack top straps, he turned to me with, "I don't need to look any further, I can smell the contents already, see you in the pub tomorrow, and you owe me a pint."
Good times.
