Garstonboy, you are correct in your basic info but the principle is the same ie demanding money without justification other than greed. The difference is that the hapless users of the bridges have no real choice. And as for the local( rapacious and greedy) councils well if they are getting funding from the Westminster Gov guess where its gets its money from .Er,road users like me who have no say in the matter. And be assured I have already made my objections to the tolls well know to the councils,MPS etc...Waste of breath and effort.Bit like the pathetic response to the petition that people tried to get going.
How come Scotland's bridges are toll free when they get their money from? Guess where, yep the Westminster Gov.
I am sure Viscount is just one of many fed up people.Just read the PRUNE website

Many of our forum members who do not qualify for Halton resident toll exemption will need to use the Mersey Gateway bridge some time. There will be a toll for cars and light vans of £2.00 per crossing of both the new bridge , and the old Silver Jubilee bridge (Runcorn bridge) when that re-opens after the proposed maintenance closure. That obviously means £4.00 per return journey.
The bridge tolls are being administered by Merseyflow , and it might be advisable to examine the various schemes they offer such as monthly or pre-pay arrangements. The cost savings are only nominal , five or ten percent in the case of pre-pay , but there will be no toll booths on the bridges themselves , so having control over some sort of account that avoids the need to search around for somewhere to pay within the short period allowed after a crossing could be very helpful.
I won't list all the options here , but the one most suited to your own needs will become apparent if you read the Merseyflow web site.
Registration is not compulsory. You can of course pay the full £2.00 toll every time you use either the new or old bridge , but failing to do so within the specified time limit of only a day or two will land you with a hefty surcharge.
We all object to paying these new charges ,especially on the old bridge , which I thought was illegal , but a little forward planning may alleviate the burden. For further information , see the Merseyflow web site.

Further update : I registered for with Merseyflow this evening , as registered pre-pay customers who opt for a windscreen sticker save ten percent on standard bridge tolls. Registration is a fairly simple process once you get the hang of it. Do not try to set a password until after you have entered your personal details , otherwise it will be rejected. At the end of the process , you need to pay a total of thirty five pounds , of which five pounds is a registration fee , the rest being starting credit for bridge tolls. Log-out of the site is via a rather inconspicuous button in the top right-hand corner of the screen , which lights up if you point at it. After receiving the registration details , Merseyflow send you an e-mail to confirm the details of your account. Mine was slightly incorrect. I registered to top-up my credit balance manually , but the e-mail said auto , so I went back into my account , where it definitely says manual. I have sent them an e-mail seeking clarification. Other than that , it all seems to be set-up. I await my windscreen sticker , and a reply to my enquiry.

Yep it does actually say that in the F.A.Q's section. Still a rip-off charge though.

Blooming cheek asking for a registration fee. talk about "highway" robbery! how much does it cost to make a sticker. John Hi John. It is not just a sticker, I received mine last week and was puzzled by the small barcode and reference number which face inwards. Wondering how it is meant to work I held it up to the light, it contains a metallic circuit which I presume is encoded with your details and the ANPR cameras read it. You also get very precise instructions on where to stick it (on your windscreen that is) Regards, Martin.

Liverpool airport is going to be at a massive disadvantage when the tolls on the bridge come into place. Improving infrastructure has come at a price, and that's just the road, adding rail will need to be paid for too, this could be a link into why new routes havn't been announced, how much of an affect will the bridge have and are the airlines waiting to see if numbers reduce.. or they are waiting to see what affect manchesters re-build will have before they put plans in place.

My concern, though I won't be losing any sleep over it is the non payers like foreign trucks and those caravan dwellers now called travellers who don't have a fixed abode. How do you collect the tolls from them. What about say, a Frenchman and his family touring the country and knows nothing about the tolls and how and when to pay it. "Nearly a quarter of a million foreign drivers using the M25 Dartford Crossing have evaded the controversial new automated toll – while UK drivers who do the same face hefty fines through the post, new figures reveal."

I haven't seen too many new routes announced anywhere of late. The large LCC s are probably waiting to see what opportunities arise from the failure of Air Berlin. ......... I don't think Air Berlin are completely dead and buried just yet, but more importantly, the as yet unknown effects of Brexit could be a major factor.

Personally I cannot see that a £2 toll fee for using the new bridge will have any effect of airport traffic. We can all have a moan and then much as we do with the tunnel tolls it is just something we have to accept. If taking a car to an airport parking charges are more important than a bridge charge,.

May persuade the city's residents to use our airport instead of driving past it to use MAN.

I will have to pay the toll going to work and to Liverpool Airport. There will a!so be the option of rail via the Halton Curve too which is a good thing.
